Well, I see the Evoluzione lurks through these boards. I know they are a very controversial issue, but here we go.

Here's my intro...

I'm JD, the son of the guy who *did* own the two evo's. The pics that another member have posted, from a Summit show, thats me in the passenger seat (a few years younger). We had the demo model from Euroworks, which has since been sold, and we are in the process of finishing our evo 1. I kinda rep my dad, seeing as how I have been studying the Evos since we got ours, and I host all of our websites containing pictures of them.

Here's history:

2000, my dad sold his award winning show truck (chevy k1500) and purchased the evo 1 kit. After working on that one for a while, and visiting brent (evoluzione1) several times, dad got a burn to drive it, but it was still in pieces, so he bought Eurowork's demo to drive while we finished the other one. That demo was okay. The interior flocking was horrendous, the doors didnt close right, and there were exposed rivets, but other than that it was a great car. You couldnt stop at a stoplight without someone shouting out, asking what it was. The evo 1 got put on hold for a little while and we moved to Minnesota. We sold the red Evo II (demo model) and sent the evo 1 to a small shop to be finished.

..whole bunch more. its all up in the air right now. the doors are done, and the rear is getting mounted right now. dad promised to have it done by my senior prom (may 2008)

welcome to the board, i am just glad to see ppl loving thse cars, hope that the stock nazies stay off your back.

That is cool man! That is the only kit that looks good. You guys definetly did the first one the right way! What price range did the first one sale for?

The red one was built by Euroworks, and like I said, a little sketchy.

we sold that for $17k. we would also had sold it for $12K if you wanted to find your own wheels ($5k was in the wheels and tires)

the guy that is working on it now does AMAZING work. he just finised an old corvette, and the guy he did it for got crap from purists because it was too straight and perfect, so our next k-1 will be a show stopper.

 

Looked at ur school project page.. why wouldnt the kit fit a 92? "The K-1 Evoluzione is a full body kit that overlays over any 81-91 F-Body." a 3rd gen is a 3rd gen.. was it just a typo?

 

ha, yea never even realized that. type indeed. any third gen camaro or firebird works. the back end is completele hacked off, the front fenders and front bumper are all removed, and wheels wells enlarged. Pretty much the only thing remaining on the one we still have is the unibody shell, doors, and a roof with t tops. so, in the end, there isnt much left of the donor.

 

What country are you from? Also have u looked around the boards? There was another guy around here that was doing one of these kits a while back..

Cool man, I think it's a really intresting car, in my opinion not an f-car at all, but a really cool kit car. A lot of people around here have trouble seperating the 2 but as far as I'm concerned unless you destroyed a really nice f-body to do the kit what's the harm? I mean every time I go to the junkyard there are litterly tons of V6 f-bodies sitting there rotting away.. In my opinion an old V6 f car would be the perfect canidate for this kit since the bodies themselves are normally much straighter and less abused than V8 cars, plus who could get mad at someone cutting up another old V6 car?

 

I have always liked how those cars looked in pictures, but was extremely disappointed in the one I saw in person. It was built on a V6 camaro, retained the low-option Camaro interior, and was put together with the shoddiest body work I've ever seen. Rivets exposed, and silicone cauk holding body panels together. Overall, a genuine piece of crap car.

But, I think that if I was to see one that was well built, I'd have a much different opinion of it. The only other issue I have with the cars is that you're basically covering up the stock body with another body. I can only imagine how much one of those cars weighs when it's done.

 

yea i've seen some pics of some pretty shady evos too. ours will be nothing like it. we didnt even like the four exposed rivets on the one we owned. THe guy who is doing the bodywork on ours is a phenomanaly (sp?) talented person and will do top notch work.

as for the body cover up...my dad saw this car in a magazine back in 2000. he said to himself "i want that car." not "I want that camaro with the body kit" and it just so happens the only way to get "that car" was to build it on a third gen.

and the weight...

with my knowledge of how the car goes together and what not, my unofficial word (and i havent taken any official measurements) is that the evo will be lighter than the stock third gen, because almost all of the body was removed and replaced with the new one, not covered up. we also cut off both bumpers, and reduced the back end of the car, lightening it back there. the replacement body parts (fenders, etc) are not steel like the camaro, but fiberglass, so i dont think it will weigh as much. now the big block in the front end might be a little heavier

 

k1 always made great products i used to chat with the owner a few years ago. great folks glad you're doing one.

 

How does car insurance apply to something like that? It's a 82-92 F-Body, but it isn't. Obviously, exterior parts would require custom fabrication to repair, and if the interior was done, the dash and console would be the same way.

 

we just have a stated value of everything invested in it, and pay insurance on that. in the very unfortunate event of totaling it, we just get a check.

 

i have a evo 2 gts kit i was planning on selling but i think that fell through so i might start on it this fall but we will see.

 

car looks great, as for the controversy,,,so its a modified body. Personnally I think it is worse when some one tries to turn an RS into a IROC or a Z28 and sell it as such to an unsuspecting buyer, I don't think you can pass that off as anything except what it is. Heck some don't even consider the firebirds real pontiacs after they started using chevy engines.

 

I have wanted the evoluzione II from the time it was launched. It seems to have been discontinued though. Neither Euroworks nor K1 has it on there web sites. Do you know if it is still available maybe through another vendor?

 

i dont know where to find them, but man, i really want one of those dashes..

Man, that's bring one back from the past. The most important part about making it better is that the hard part has already been done. Now just treat it like an normal car redo and it will be better. As long as you get it for a really good price your good.

 

I kept a lot of pics of the Evo, Its the only third gen kit that I really loved. Are any of these yours ?
