How much for a decent paintjob?
What is a reasonable price for a good paintjob? i want my car to be a color like this http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DN.
I would like the car too not be its current color when you open the door either.
also how would getting rear window louvers and having them painted the same color loook?

A paint job can cost just about anything, it could be $2000-$7000 you just have to go get quotes from places around your area. As for the louvers, I'd just take em off personally or leave them black.

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
It depends on your car and your wallet. I would say start at $2000 for any decent paint and that would be with very few dings and dents, ready to be painted car.
I agree...do you homework and shop around.

2k if it just needs to be sanded and sprayed. This is assuming you've taken all the non-paintable items apart. If your doing a color change, than figure in painting things that are not normally visible from the exterior, inside of hood + fenders, door jams, hatch, etc.

OR you can spend $250 on a single stage economy job, and 6 months later tell your friends "maaco sucks man, this paint is terrible!" when it was your (not you, I'm generalizing) fault for being cheap

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
I had my Trans am painted at a ford dealership for 1600.00 it's now a 9 year old paint job and holding up very well. I stripped alot of parts off the car before it went in though and the wasn't much body work done aside from door dings. The car was two toned and matched to it's original colors. Of course there was no color change cost. Very nice work that they did I had no complaints whatsoever and if I did customer is always right at a dealership and they fix it.

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
It all in the timing and who you know actually. Heres what you do ask around if anyone knows a good painter and generally they will do the work on the side when things are slow. like rainy, cold seasons and basically all they do is rent a booth from where they work and do it on the side .... that is how my car was a 1,600 dollar job ... Takes longer Yes, however you get a high quality job at cut rates
Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
Like others said anywhere from $2000-$8000, just depends on your area, work that is needed, ect. Just go to a few shops and talk to them. Don't go to Maaco!!
That blue color is a sweet color. That's the color of my car. That pic doesn't do it justice. Look at my cardomain.

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
Why waste your money? Paying to get it painted at Maaco, saving your money until that paint job goes to shlt, then paying to have it painted again...thats a waste of money and doesn't make sense. Not to mention the Maaco job wont be worth a damn. Save to have it done right the first time and it will last years and years...
BTW ditch the louvers, they are fugly

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
I personally have not had a car painted at Maaco, but I've seen cars that have. And I've been around the body shop business, my father's owned a body shop for I dont know how many years...
If you want a cheap job, go ahead and go to Maaco, but if you want a real quality paint job that will look great and last a long time, go to a reputable shop.

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
well, turns out that the paint on my car was from Maaco. The paint job WILL last a while, in fact I feel any paint job will last for a decent amount of time. The problem is that it will deteriorate. They dont do a good job for prep work, so now the paint if peeling and chipping pretty easily. In fact I can see underneath that they didnt sand at all possibly.
Basically its a crap paint job IMO (of course it all really depends on each individual store) but if your car looks horrid right now (primer, different panels etc...) and a GOOD paint job is a LONG way down the road, like years away, then I would say try Maaco. It will be good for a while, and even if its liek mine where it peels a bit and what not, it'll at least give you some time...basically just to keep your friends from calling your car a piece of crap lol
Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
That's what I'm saying...don't go to Maaco and get a cheap job, because that is just what you will get. You get what you pay for. If you're that desperate and cheap, hell you might as well get some newspaper and spraypaint.
I agree with you anesthes, and as you said yourself...if you want a better job, you'll go to your buddy with the nice paint shop.

I am hoping to repaint my car in the near future, but I have a sort of wild flame job idea going on can anyone give me a quote on how much they think it will cost. I have a picture I drew of it... with colored pencils, but you get the idea anyway.

I plan on doing all prep work myself, I already helped a friend prep a car for paint and it turned out show car quality, it didn't have a flaw in it, so I don't see that as being to big a venture.

Re: How much for a decent paintjob?
I think my paint bill has reached about $1000 so far. All done by me. Undercarriage, engine compartment, interior, all hidden spots. I compleely stripped the whole car and started spraying and rebuilding as I went. Imagine what a shop would charge for that.
