A stupid question trying to find the date of production of a car

I have an 80's era camaro that I'm trying to find out what year it is. Stupid question I know :0. The service tag on the drivers door has the information but the date numbers are seriously faded away. This car was given to me by my inlaws for doing so much work on their vehicles over the past year. They lost the title to it so its been filed for replacement and that takes a while for it to process. There was no registration or any other documentation I could find with the date on it. Can one figure the production date of the car via the VIN number or would there be another secret spot that might have that info by chance?

From the last digit on the faded numbers I'm guessing either 83,85,86 but its really hard to tell.

Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Kaycee

I think if you just go to carfax.com and enter your vin # it'll tell you your basic info for free.

Just find a cop to run the license plate. It'll come back with the year, make & model. Or your local DMV.

OMG I only seen that commercial 100 times lol. Didnt even think of that

Thanks again for the info that got me fixed up with a return of a 1986 Camaro. Now the fun of sanding that puppy down for a fresh paintjob as its been sitting in a field for 7 years lol. Dumped the gas tank and cleaned out the varnish that was left over from stale gas and put in a can of seafoam and that cleaned out the injectors pretty darn good. It originally started running on probably 2 cylinders and that stuff after a few starts and stops for soaking got it running on all 6 again . Highly recommended for those lucky enough to find a field ridden car lol.

Darn car didnt have any plates to have a cop run them so that didnt help much on my search. Now if the title will come in so I can get legal tags for it would be great .

Thanks to all who had suggestions

The 10th digit of the vin denotes the year.
