Better Finish

The original finish on my 86 T/A, (cobalt blue & silver) had yellowed and the clear coat was cracking. It is a California unit with the wonderful water based paint. Had it repainted in the base/clear, same color, and replaced all of the decals with reproductions from Pheonix Graphics. Everything looks OK for a driver, but I notice that under florescent lights there are some dry spots in the clear. The blue is even and nearly blimish free, and the dry spots only show up under bright artifical light. The car looks real good in the sunlight. Can the car be re-clear coated, or should I just start over with the paint? Someone told me that you can clear coat over the decals and make everything look more finished and smooth? I used to paint back in the 70's, and do not know anything about the new paint systems, so I will have to hire it out. The car has 27K miles on it and is very clean. I want to get it ready for some local shows and car events, and I know the judges will zing me on the dry spots in the paint. Thanks in advance. Charles

Re: Better Finish

i wouldnt try to paint of the vinal decals..... they aren't flush with the body and the clear would probably run around with creases.....not to mention they might react with the clear & make it crack.....my best advice is to buff with a rubbing compound then with a swirl mark remover.....then buff with a polishing compound

Re: Better Finish

Thanks for the tips. I had not thought about the vinyl reacting with the clear coat, and that is a good point. I will try to buff it. Charles
