Couple of Q's

Hi,

I hope I got this in the right section, as this one looks the best for my thread.

Ok, well, I am in the market for a new car, and a specific 1991 Z28 has caught my eye. Here is the craigslist: http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/409195452.html

I was wondering, how is the reliability on these in particular? I am an import person, so my domestic knowledge is pretty minimal...

I have a budget of $12k, so would it be best to buy this one for $6k and put $6k into it, or look for a $12k 3rd-gen?

Here are some of my goals, hopefully this will help everyone out answering my questions..
-I plan to DAILY drive this car
-I do NOT want to be forced to work on the car for constant maintenance issues every week
-I do want to eventually put out around 300+hp, but with daily driving still in mind

Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions, or comments!

its got a lot of good parts on it, but myself, personally, i would stay away from any car with 193,000 miles and the original drivetrain.

Well it does have a T56 for some reason. How a 305 tpi makes enough power to use a .50 ratio gear I have no idea.

If the body's in good condition go for it, you aren't planning on keeping the original motor and rear end right?

Re: Couple of Q's

it has 4.10 gears. the 305 has more than enough power. 3.27/3.23 or numerically lower would be useless though.

Most of the work you would have to do has been done.If she doesn't already have subframe connectors then that is a must to do.With the $6K you have for mods you could get a ZZ4 crate motor and swap over the induction system or go the LS1 route. If she looks as nice in peron then there shouldn't be a problem for her being a daily driver.Just check her out really well because she's on the high end of the price range because of the mileage(with or without the wheel/tire package).
