Interchanging the front fenders. What fits a 92?
Hey,
I bought a 92 T/A Vert and the front end is a little banged up, more or less. I need to get some fenders and a front bumper. My question is what fenders can I use??? I had thought they all were the same from 82-92 for both camaros and birds minus the acessories like fender vents or ground effects. So what should I be looking for??
Also I need to repaint a flaking rear bumper. I won't actually be the one laying color but I do want to do the body work. So, what do I do with the flaking paint and what type of filler do I use on urethane??
Thanx Everybody.

Only 91-92 will be a direct fit. The 82-90 is close enough you can make it work.
I used an 83 Camaro fender on my 91 and the only difference was the slots on the bottom for the 91-92 ground effects werent there. I'm not as sure on a Firebird.

All the 'bird fenders from '82-up will bolt on to the car. You have to decide what options you want. If the car has GFX you will need the mounting holes for the GFX. Do you want to have fender "louvers"? etc. The fenders on my '92 are from an '85-'88 (I think) Trans Am. They have the openings for the fender louvers, but I had to fill the holes for the older GFX and drill new ones for my '92 GFX. It all depends on what you want and how much work you want to do. That being said I have both my original '92 Fenders lying on my front deck right now. They have some rust down low, but I think they are salvageable

Also, on the flaking rear bumper: What we did for my urethane pieces that had worn off/deteriorated clearcoat was to DA them with 400 until all the affected clearcoat was removed and we had a good solid surface to work with. Then we primed the pieces and painted them. No real "special" steps were taken with the urethane parts. So far so good, but I'll let you know how it looks in a couple years

Paul,
Do you have a pic of those fenders you can send?? How does the rust look? Is it through the metal or only surface? Did you replace them just for the scoops?
Thanx for the info. Do you know if Camaro fenders will work? I spotted a 91 RS in the JY with a good front end and GFX that I might go swipe for sale later.
Thanx again

Re: Interchanging the front fenders. What fits a 92?
[QUOTE=FIRECHICKEN;3487303] Hey firechicken, the fenders that paul has will work perfectly on your car except for one thing, verts have a different bracket on the bottom rear side,so if you end up getting them don't throw away those damaged original ones until you are through with the install(the crinkled junk will be neccessary)for these brackets. Also, camaro fenders will not work.Yes they will bolt on,but the wheel well openings are not the same.So if you put camaro fenders on your car it will look like *ss IMO. One more thing,I happen to have a front bumper cover for your car,not sure if you're interested though,I have to have $300 for it.I don't have the inner bumper parts for it though(just the cover) it is not mint, but not junk either. It has I think two tears that are really not noticeable. If you're interested,pm me.Anyway, good luck getting that thing back together.I have seen the pics on your post over on the vert board and I gotta say very nice and very lucky find.
