Headlight opening-strange things

First off, its an 86 six banger firebird. When i got the car home, i noticed there was a connector near the RF headlight that was disconnected.I knew initially the headlights didnt open. I didnt know why so i figured hey i'l just stick it together and see what happens. So when i did it, the right front headlight opened. I tried to close it manually, but the motor would just spin it back up. Then, i tried to open the LF headlight manually, and the motor held it closed. This is all with the lights off. Now, if i turn the lights on, the RF will remain opened and the LF is openable, but when i shut the lights off the RF will remain open and LF closes. Also, both headlights are lit when turning on. Any ideas?

If he had a 1987-92 Firebird with the 2-wire motors, that link would have been helpfull information. He has the 3-wire motors which were used from 1982-86. I sell a kit TDS 508210, $35 per headlight to repair them. I include a diagnostic & troubleshooting guide along with the repair instructions.

Re: Headlight opening-strange things

It actually ended up that all 3 relays were bad. It looked like they all had been swapped out. When I would replace one with another they would all do different things. I got the 3 relays from the jy he let me take them for free. Mechanically the motors worked great with power applied from a different source so i knew it was mechanical

Re: Headlight opening-strange things

Glad you resolved it. I think you meant to say you knew it was "electrical".
