Strut Tower Repair
Hello all,
Finally, after finishing college and actually getting a good job, I am now able to restart my expensive hobby called Camaro.
Right now, my car is dismantled so that I can do the body repairs and make sure I get rid of all of the rust.
One thing I need to replace is the rusted strut towers, they are trashed due to the great Wisconsin winters. I was wondering if anybody knows of a store where I can purchase new Strut Towers. Year One used to have them, but now they don't. Can anybody direct me down the right path?

Re: Strut Tower Repair
for the price and all the work assuming the rest of the car is rotted out as well, I would find a clean roller and swap everything over.

Re: Strut Tower Repair
Well I'm guessing that only the top part is rusted through, and maybe some holes/patches are rusted through where the dirt sheild bolts with through, correct?
If this is the case, there is no need to replace the entire thing. I've patched a few little holes through the wheel well. If you've got the engine out, this job is even easier. Remove struts, and brackets of course. Drill out the spot welds holding the top strut tower plate onto the wheel well. If your struts havn't shot through the towers yet, you'll have enough material left to design some new sheet metal to replace it. Then just butt weld it (TIG perferable, doable with MIG) to where it should be. Grind it down, sandblast it, and go over it with your favorite rust proofer so this doesn't happen again (such as POR-15). Then, weld the plate back on. This may need minor repairs depending on how you removed the spot welds. Once again, sandblast this and rust proof it. It should be pretty obvious that water likes to collect in there, so stop it from doing dammage again.
However, if this is not the only part that requires replacing/rewelding, I would consider your options of a new roller like xpndbl3 said.

Re: Strut Tower Repair
Thanks for all of the information. The rest of the car is in great shape, there really is not much rust elsewhere.
How hard would it be to graft on a fourth gen front clip into a thirdgen? or even a corvette front end?

Re: Strut Tower Repair
As for my welding skill, it is pretty diecent. I believe I would have a body shop do this work, as the geometry of the front end suspension is somewhat important to me.
Does anybody know of any places that sell the GM replacement sheetmetal strut towers?
