a life changing experience

Ok so this weekend my church was taking a group of 6-7 people to the national apogetics conference in charlotte, nc. (I live in High Point about two hours away) My dads like, you need to go it will be a life changing experience, so im like ok ill go. Boy was it ever. On the way back saturday night. I glanced down at my radio, and realized i forgot the faceplate, so this was going to be a long ride home. Ok, gauges: Oil pressure, check; tempature, thats a little hot. (240)

Then I looked at the road, only I wasn't on it. Not good. I hit a brick pillar and managed to tear my car up pretty good. so my beautiful, finished car is wrecked. Ill admit it, I cried, a lot. I probably have 500 or 600 man hours in this car, she was my baby. now I have to start all over, and I thought my dad was going to kill me.

and he still might, we havent got in touch with the owner of the pillar yet

heres pics these are now, the car before is here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fire...-finished.html

I feel for you, man. That's a real shame. But, as the above poster said, it looks very fixable.

Gotta keep your eyes on the road, for your own sake!

No I got lucky, the hood is barely scratched, a little touch up paint and you won't even notice the chips (about the size of a pencil eraser)

I dont feel bad for you I hope it taught you a lesson to keep your eyes on the road...it was a life changing experience because now you might keep your eyes on the road and save someones life or your own...it could have been a person instead of a brick pillar!

Re: a life changing experience

your car isnt wrecked. I have seen daily driver 3rd gens that look worse than that and have rot too. It just needs a door, a fender, and a little TLC to get it back. This will probably bee a learning experience, I am sure your eyes will be glued to the road for a while. I am just lucky that all those times when I ALMOST died never actually killed me when I was 16.

Re: a life changing experience

im not going to be a total **** about it, but yes you need to keep your eyes on the road, i see people all the time fiddling with their make-up , phone, radio and whatnot and they are drifting all over the place, and sometimes at me! its no wonder there are so many accidents anymore. I almost got t-boned going through a green light a little while back but a girl who was playing with her phone and driving.

As for the car, looks like you got lucky, no chassis damage, just the door and the fender, i know you had a lot of time in the car but i could have been alot worse, so how did the pillar make out?

Re: a life changing experience

My car won that fight, the pillar is going to be more of a problem than my car. I figure in a week the car will look like it did before the wreck.

hey 4playta you know I have thought about the whole hitting a person thing. my best friend came within an inch of death because someone was paying no attention. I simply glanced down at my gauges and ran off the road. I keep my eyes on the road, and this was simply a mistake. I know it won't happen again.

btw- im not some punk who has it made and whose parents hand me everything. I worked every summer since I was thirteen to get the money for that car, this was a loss for me. so id like to think that if something you worked hard for was suddenly gone I would feel sorry for you

Re: a life changing experience

**** happens, you just have to learn from it. I've put my car up on two medians because I was ****ing around and being stupid, and you can bet I felt like an idiot after each one. The second time I drove right over a little island in a big intersection where pedestrians wait while they are half way across the street. I am lucky I didn't hit anybody who might have been standing there. I think I've learned my lesson but then again I said that after the first one. I just need to learn to take a little hit off the peace pipe and chill out while I'm out cruising.

That's not that bad of damage at all, and it's an easy fix. He should be glad that it's not any worse, and that he made it out alive from his negligent driving.

Look on the bright side...The car is still driveable, no structural damage, and you went to an ApologetiX concert! They rock! I have every album they've ever made, including the Member's only albums.

Main thing is, your alive and can tell us about it.

You sir, are an *******. Your right, he should keep his eyes on the road, but I'm sure he learned that, and I'm sure that the worst punishment is going to be from himself. And your right, that could have been a person, which would have been horrible. But I do feel sorry for him because its not like he was speeding and driving recklessly on purpose. He was checking the vitals of his car (at the time) and took too long.

Everybody makes mistakes, we all just need to rebound from them.

You will make your car look better than it did, and I know that you learned from this. I'm sorry it happened, but nothing can change what did. Keep us posted on the update.

Re: a life changing experience

Well I guess what I was trying to say is I dont feel sorry for your learning experience because it is going to cost you some cash so that lesson should stick in your memory. Now if ya didnt crack up your car and looked at your gauges for 2 seconds and just drifted of the road would you have learned anything? No you would not have...but now you know dont ya! I am sorry for your car but like I said that lesson was worth every penny it is going to cost you because someday that lesson might save a life. Never take your eyes off the road for more than a 1/2 sec...you should just be able to take a quick glance at them and see whats going on. When I was 18 I was turning my radio station and when I looked up a kid was in the road and I had to swerve to miss him and hit a telephone pole totaling my car...did I learn, you bet I did. To this day I never take my eyes of the road for more that just a split second and I make sure I am on a spot of the road where it is safe to do so.

I want to get one of those license plate trims made to say "With great power comes great responsibility" It would go go well with all our cars haha. I live in california and sometimes i feel like my speedometer is broken because people here go like 20 mph over speed limit and they expect me to go fast because they see the car im driving.

even if he doesn't have base left over, just go to a shop and have them order a quart of base. and yeah, most the time the clear is what makes the different color look off, thats why you can blend it to make the matched panel look better.

Well, that does suck. But like most said before, you still got your car and it can be fixed. Hell, you probably got a good start on it already- Call it a lesson learned.

I seriously would of cried too- go slightly insane with anger, and probably would of blamed it on the brick pillar.

Re: a life changing experience

Its a ***** when those stupid pillars jump out in front of you. I was in my 87 305 HO running from the cops DRUNK in the rain, actually getting AWAY through 4 counties, adrenaline pumping when I could not see red & blue lights anymore when all of a sudden the guardrail jumped out and took me for a 120 foot ride. I spun around and the other guardrail on the other side picked up the slack & took me for another 50 foot ride. LOL. I am thankful I did not get hurt nor anybody else for that matter. My car pretty much had a slight guardrail indentation down the car from one bumper to the other on BOTH sides. I did not have the heart to keep it as it reminded me of the damn jumping guardrails so I gave it to my brother who drove it like that for a full year until I took it back from him fixed most of it & sold it. It was a lesson learned & I will NEVER drink & drive again, as I am sure you will be more careful taking your eye off the road. We all do stupid **** sometimes we get away with it sometimes things just jump out & smack us into reality. My car was FAR worse then yours & I fixed it, then with the rears quarters still being messed up sold it. I would definitely fix your car. Marty

Re: a life changing experience

Oh the cops got me after hitting the guard rail slid between 2 cop cars back onto highway a few more miles when my car finally ran out of gas just as I was about to loose them AGAIN. DAMN. What is really messed up this is all true I am sitting here laughing now but at the time it was not funny. I got pretty banged up bouncing off the doors and windshield. That next day I was sore. Boys & girls you got to be careful driving them in the rain but when you are drunk it is FAR more dangerous. Do not drink & drive. I lost a very impressive 305HO due to my stupidty, not to mention my license for the previous 2 years & next year. I have totally new line of cars my wife gets to have fun in & I get the joy of working on them but have yet to drive them.. Marty
