Opened my headlight Motor

I opened my {Right}head motor today to see if those three pucks underneath the nylon gear were dust yet. Sure enough all i found was dust. I put the motor all back together and plugged it in. Then i turned on the headlights so they would pop up and the right headlight wouldnt go up.

Sooo i pulled it all apart again and i notice that these two square brass color pieces weren't put in. They had to have came out when i took off those two little nuts and the top of the motor. It took me forever to get them back into there original place. I put it all back together and reinstalled the whole thing back. Now when i turn on my headlights i can hear a loud grinding/squeeking noise from that side.

(Those square piece are on little springs that touch the actual motor.)
Can anyone tell me what i did wrong. I think its coming from those little brass colored square shaped pieces. Do i have to lube up that little piece with some greece or Wd-40? please help

Thank you for reading.

ps. keep in mind that i re-greece the nylon gear and the metal grear too. All the bushes and gaskets were put back as well.

Re: Opened my headlight Motor

Read the instructions for the 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit on my site (lower left-hand corner). Those brass pieces are the brushes. I give tips on how to reassemble them using my "paperclip trick". Or just buy the kit and you'll get the hard copy of the instructions along with all the parts to repair two headlight motors. If it turns out you buggered up the brushes (and it's highly likely you did if improperly assembled) I sell replacement used brushes as TDS p/n 507150.

Re: Opened my headlight Motor

I had the same problem. Took the top off the motor and the two brass connectors came out with two springs. Need to know where the springs go, I figured the brass connectors go back inside the plastic inserts. My passenger side motor was being electrically energized but it didn't raise the headlight. Now, the motor is not energized at all. Thanks for any help.

The springs go in the plastic inserts before you put the two brass connectors in. This is what makes it so hard and tricky to put the motor back in.

Reads Lon's instructions on the paper clip trick on his site. He also has replacement parts as he stated above in his post.
