Dent on Fender Lip

Well it finally happened, my first dent . My aunt backed into my car and scraped the fender lip on the drivers side. Does anyone have any idea what this would cost to repair? She would prefer not to go through our insurance, since we have the same agent .

Re: Dent on Fender Lip

pics would help, maybe just pull a good fender off a car at the junk yard, because if u have the stock paint it'll be nearly impossible to match.

Re: Dent on Fender Lip

sorry to hear about your dent man. well i go to college right now for auto body so maybe i can give you some input. in order to fix your dent, the body shop will have to:

-hammer out the dent

-strip the area down to the bare metal

-apply plastic filler (maybe a couple coats)

-apply polyester putty (maybe a couple coats)

-then prime it

-then spray color

-then spray clear

-then wetsand if needed

that all costs money.

buy a new fender (i just got 2 new in box fenders for 25$ ea) then the body shop has to:

-spray color

-spray clear

-then wetsand if needed

which do you think is cheaper? also keep in mind that you are not only paying in materials cost, but you gotta pay these guys by the hour to do it, and buying a new fender is much faster process.

hope this helps man

you'll never be able to match 20 year old clear with new clear, thats why I said try to find a junk yard fender in good shape thats close to the color... (just had to clarify what I said earlier)

Re: Dent on Fender Lip

go to a paintless dent repair place like Dent Wizard and have them pull it out and touch up with paint if it is minor.

Re: Dent on Fender Lip

sounds like pictures are a must for this one....

If a dent is on the lip of a fender....it might be pretty hard to get out using PDR. Also....you actually don't have to sand down to bare metal when using todays body fillers....it's actually recommended by ICAR not to sand down to bare metal because your going through thte "E" coat which can lead to rust. Just rough the paint up with 80 on a DA....then you can mud it up....plus..it's much easier to feather out.

Re: Dent on Fender Lip

Well I will try to get some pictures up today to show the damage.

Ideally I would like to just have the dent fixed but it may be more cost effective to buy a new fender.
