quick simple ?

Didnt know quite where to post this but I need to know on an 86 Camaro 2.8, are the door locks the same as the trunk lock as in, do you use the same key for the trunk that you do for the doors? I got a free car with no keys so I needed to know. Thanks!

Re: quick simple ?

same as the trunk glove box as well...so it might be cheaper to pull that apart (if possible to get to), get the lock mechanism out, and bring that to a lock smith instead of paying a lot for him to come out to the car.

Re: quick simple ?

84redta, I was going to pull the door lock out and take that to the locksmith but you say theres a glove box in the trunk? Ive only had the car 3 days so not too familiar with it.Ill have to go look now. Ill try to pull that lock instead then. Thanks everyone!

Re: quick simple ?

yea, only way to get to her is if you have a power release hatch so that it pops open for you, the switch for that would be in the center console, and you would need to have a battery in the car, otherwise you need the key to get in the trunk, i was just thinking if you had that power option it would be a heck of a lot easier than tearing a door panel off for the first time. Otherwise either t-top or door lock are the only things you really can get to if you don't have that option available.

Re: quick simple ?

Actually, I got the lock out of the trunk glove box by reaching back there. It was easy I did it in less than 2 min. but I dont know if the locksmith can make a key for it because it has no numbers on the cylinder. I still might have to take the lock out of the door. Its not my first time taking these door panels off though and I will say they are much easier to take off than most cars! I already had to fix alot on this car though.

Re: quick simple ?

yea i'm not sure of numbers, i took it to a lock smith and he did it blindly w/out any numbers, just did it with just a lock, but who knows, number may make it easier. and yea, you'll find a lot to be fixed on those free cars, i know, i've gotten a couple myself, lol. Have fun and good luck!

Re: quick simple ?

A lock smith doesn't need numbers, all they need is the tumbler and they have the kit to go from there.
