right way is to patch it with metal. either weld it of you can rivit it? cheap way is to use fiberlass filler. its water proof.

Re: What to patch holes with?
i was told to get the interior metal down to bare, fiberglass a couple sheets in, then go underneath, clean that up the same way you do the inrior metal to get most of the rust off, and then use stranded fiberglass bondo underneath. Personally i'm not completely satisfied with that answer because the first time someone sits in the back and then goes to stand up on the floor to try and get out, they are going to make the floor weak again, so i'm going to go ahead, do the entire floor as mentioned above, and then rivit a piece of thick steel across the floor so that when anyone gets out back there it's re-inforced like three times over. Then again this really as far as i see is a temporary fix...metal is the true fix, but i only want my car to last me 5-6 years so it should do the trick. All depends on how long you want your body to last...ooor when the next time you feel like dealing with this issue again. All up to you.

Re: What to patch holes with?
Well ive got a huge hole and im going to get that patched up with metal this week but im wondering if i should also have the guy weld in small pieces of metal around some of these smaller holes. The biggest one is maybe a quarter in size and there are two or three more that are the size of dimes or smaller. I figured it would just be better to patch them up with something seeing as there so small but im not quite sure what to use.

Re: What to patch holes with?
i would suggest getting them patched if you don't want to deal with it again, but in the end, your going to have to clean the entire underside, and then paint the entire underside with POR 15, to preserve what you have, but in cleaning the rust underneath down to bare usable metal, you may either make those dimes into quarters and the quarter into a half dollar, so really you may want to clean the underside now so you have it properly taken care of, or have those holes patches an inch extra on each side, so that you can clean the underside and por 15 it.
I'm dealing with this right now, and i'm just cleaning the inside still and it's not getting any better, but the holes are still pretty small. But the holes probably one some of them will get a little bigger but need to be cleaned properly in any event. I was suggested to use "flap disks" inwhich it's like sand paper that is stacked on top of eachother in a disk formation, and you use an angle grinder, it doesn't harm the metal unless you press hard and stay in one spot for a long time. I just took my entire driver side down to bare metal inside in about an hour or so and it didn't harm the metal all that much at all, but it cleaned the rust away nicely. I don't know what other's would suggest, but i plan on using flap disks inside and outside of my floors.

Check the following link (I used the epoxy and powermesh several years ago with excellent results. I followed up with POR-15):

Re: What to patch holes with?
Depending on what they guy who im taking the car to to weld in a nice big piece of metal says(im going to ask him to also fill in the small holes since time is running short) i might be investing in some of the stuff JamesC used. Sadly, im not touching the underside, i already know ill need new floorpans and this is just a temporary fix untill this summer when i can afford the pans. I just didnt want to go around with 3 or 4 little holes letting more water in and causing my already crappy pans to just fade away into dust.
