weather stripping

so recently i painted my car, and in the process i tore all my old seals off of everything, cause they were shot, now im just wondering wheres the best place to pick up replacement seals, i need the one on the door, on the car, and all 4 window belts, and i want them to fit like factory and seal out everything so i dont have tons of road noise so i want a quality product, just dont know where to look, any ideas?

Re: weather stripping

There are three kinds that I know of available: Original GM, Soffseal and Metro, listed in order (generally) of price. I'm sure there are probably others...

Everyone seems to love GM, if they can afford it. The other two get mixed reviews. I've had good luck with Metro, especially at their price through 1AAuto (sp?). I figure if I can get it for <1/2 the price of another brand I can afford to replace it if needed in a few years. If you look at Soffseal don't order through their web site, seems you can find it cheaper through other vendors.

Can't advise on either but a search should yield a ton of opinions.

Re: weather stripping

I believe Year One and Classic Industries both use Sof-Seal brand weatherstripping as their aftermarket...I'm fairly certain Classic Industries does anyway. Metro is sold at Advance Auto or AutoZone. Classic Industries has all the pieces needed to redo the entire car's weatherstripping, but it is pretty expensive for all of them...especially the t-tops and door pieces. The t-top pieces are reasonably priced compared to what is offered on the market right now, but $230 is pretty expensive still. Classic Industries has the door weatherstripping for like $80 a side, and the little splash pieces that run along the bottom of the door between the door panel I think are about $20 a piece or so...not positive though. Rear hatch is about $25. Unless you want GM original than I think they have that too but at $80. Anyway, I know Classic Industries has these pieces...they have an online catalog as well, but some of the stuff like the complete t-top seal kit was not on the online catalog, but it is in the magazine catalog.

Re: weather stripping

So if Classic Industries has aftermarket TTop weatherstripping for $230, then what makes GM so expensive at $250? i just replaced mine, went to the dealer and paid ~$250 for a set.

Eckler's has the door pieces, original GM, at $450 a pair!!! GM sells the door sets considerably less, and they are original equipment.

I didn't know they were that reasonable. Every set of GM I had seen in the past was almost twice as much. If a GM set is $250, then by all means go that route. The Classic Industries set is everything though. It has the t-top rubber, plastic deflector piece, plastic pins, & door/body rubber. Not sure if the GM has all that too, but if it does, it is probably a better route for sure.

Re: weather stripping

The GM TTop set is just that, the TTop weatherstrip for the body only.
