hatch help

I have a 1989 firebird and I'm having trouble getting the hatch open. Here's the problem: I have started disassembling the car and I started with the engine compartment which is totally empty now, no engine or wiring left. Now when I bought the car I did not get a key for the doors, only the ignition - so now that there is no power to the hatch release button on the dash, I cannot figure out how to get the hatch open. Any ideas?

Re: hatch help

You should be able to hit the switch with 12v, or maybe even a 9v battery would do it. I'm not 110% on how the switch works though, so maybe wait for someone else to chime in.

Re: hatch help

On Firebird the fuse for the hatch solenoid is not in the fuse block, but is in a separate fuse that is attached to the edge of the fuse block. Supply 12v to it and you should be able to pop the hatch.
