Firebird Wing On A Camaro

I'm not sure if this has been covered or not, but if it has, please humor me. I just bought an '89 RS and the hatch didn't open. Reson why it didn't open was becasue the pull-motor broke half way, and over time everything in there rusted up, including the back section of the hatch. Now I have the motor working right, and there is a nice sized crack around the eyelet from rotting out, and everytime the hatch gets pulled shut it sounds like it is just pulling the hatch apart.

I have a complete, and rust-free hatch and spoiler from an '86 Firebird I want to put on. I assume that if I put the Firebird hatch on, the Firebird spoiler will make contact with the Camaro spoiler ends on the rear? Has anyone done this, and how does it look?

I assume this isn't the wraparound spoiler. If so, I'm 99% sure it won't clear the camaro side pieces.

Why not take the spoiler off of the firebird hatch? If its the stock wraparound spoiler, its junk anyway. The stock wraparound spoiler was made of foam or something and it just rots/cracks/falls apart. The aftermarket fiberglass one is a different story. Plus taking it off will make the decklid lighter when you want to install it. Then just have the holes welded up and drill in your new holes for your camaro spoiler. This guy has a stock 4th gen firebird spoiler on his camaro: http://www.fquick.com/garages/Chevro..._RS/1992/8431/

No, it's not the warp around spoiler. It's the one that was on just about every 6 cylinder model. I found this picture on the web...not the greatest, but it gives you an idea of which one I'm talking about

Re: Firebird Wing On A Camaro

it will either hit the camaro side pieces or hang just a little wider then the side pieces (since the rear of the firebirds is about 2 inches or so wider than the camaros. So either it'll not fit, or it'll look terrible.

I'm only assuming this because I think it makes sense...but the Firebird and the Camaro hatches are interchangable, right?

Re: Firebird Wing On A Camaro

They are.

Why dont you just take the side peices off and seal them?

The firebird spoiler will also hang over the sides, because the firebirds are wider slightly at that point of the car.

Re: Firebird Wing On A Camaro

You could always use the firebird deck lid, and drill the holes for your camaro spoiler.
