Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

try going at it from the engine side, to the right and below the master cyl. Either that, or disconnect it from the engine side, and yank it through the firewall.

Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

the underhood area is no problem . the underdash area is what i am talking about . so much stuff in the way you can't get to the firewall grommet . anyone else have this problem ??? getting the old one out is not a problem , i'm not concerned about that . putting the new one back in properly is my concern .

Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

I replaced mine in my 88 GTA and I remember it was a screw in type grommet. I couldnt actually get the new one to screw back in because of the dum-dum. I think I just left it hang and it still worked.
I also recommend removing the drivers seat for any under dash work. just makes it easier to get under there, unless you are a contortionist.

Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

well finished installing new cable . glad i did it now , it had not broken and still worked . when threading old cable out the old cable housing broke in several places ( the cable housing , not the cable ) . for that reason i would say , stay away from J/Y cables . M.D.M. still has them new , in box . thanks for the tip about screw in grommet , got mine in 95% with the dum dum .

Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

Glad to hear you got it replaced. I will be doing the same thing shortly and this helps a lot.

I would not recommend taking out the power brake booster for anything unless you REALLY have to do it. Taking it out is the biggest pain in the world. I ended up taking off the brake pedal just to get to the top nuts.

Re: HOOD RELEASE CABLE ??

no need to remove brake booster . remove kick panel , underdash plastic , plastic panel around hood latch , thats it . have a knife of sorts to cut away seamsealer (dum dum ) that you will see when you fold back carpet . everything else pretty straight forward . oh yes , expect a kink in the back by the time you finish . good luck .
