GTA fender question
GTA fender question
Hi all,
I was meeting with a guy to pick up a part who seems much more of a GTA expert than I and he looked over my 88 GTA I recently bought.
He pointed out my fenders and said they weren't GTA fenders. So it seems I lack a scoop on either side behind the wheel well. Anyone know the validity of this?
I know what he's talking about and he had wondered if maybe my car wasn't originally a GTA. Yet it has all the features of one. I'm just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this...

Re: GTA fender question
A real GTA Trans Am will not have air vents in the fenders, as a regual trans am does. UNLESS the previous owner swapped out the fenders like on my car. pull your RPO code and then decode it and that will tell you if its a real GTA.
Re: GTA fender question
As I said to him, if it were fake the guy went to a lot of work as the mechanics of the car all match GTA specs. It even has the GTA on the glovebox thing. I'm content now.
As far as the RPO, I did thread search and saw mention of the center console. Mine's been replaced so it sounds like I couldn't fetch that info anyway.

Re: GTA fender question
The GTAs did not come with the scoops in the fenders, however many wrecked GTAs had the wrong fenders installed after accidents due to cost. If you contact the Pontiac Historical Society with the VIN they may be able to get you the RPO codes for your car.
