Great my first accident!

All my hard work: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...ack-widow.html

I was driving out to see a friend, it was snowing but I took her out anyways, (snow mostly melted the same day) and I was stopping at an intersection for a red light. I was about a cars length from a big pickup that was in front of me. The Camaro was in neutral, and I was stopped. Then it happened, a 4 door 01 olds slid into me, she was going fast enough for me to shoot forward, bounce off the truck and be about 6 feet from the truck after rolling to a stop. I basically got sandwiched. The other drivers car is pretty messed up, hood is bent right up, nose is destroyed. No damage to the truck. Im going to do everything I can to fix her.
I will need a new rear impact bar, new bumpers and maybe a new hood. anyone point me in the right direction?

Now for some pics of my poor baby:

Re: Great my first accident!

my front end lookd almost exactly like that when my camaro got wrecked, all i can say is that you look at some local junk yards for some new bumpers, ebay sucks it never has any or only ones that are in worse off condition, idk bout the hood, the junkyard might have a decent one of those also...
your car isnt too bad i would be very happy your baby doesnt look like the other car... gl bud hope that helped

try a local bone yard, ebay is pricy. look on craigslist.com. i got 2 entire, but used, front bumpers for 50 bucks a pop, one with impact bar, both with headlight bracket.

Re: Great my first accident!

Are you sure it needs replaced? It looks as though she did a real bang up job of stuffing it under your car. that bumper cover has a large impact absorbing peice behind it that Year one sells, if the reinforcement bar behind that got bent it may not be bad enough to warrant replacement, but the attachment point may just need pulled back out. that reinforcement bar is pretty tuff and is mounted to a couple of shock looking things that usually bend first where they bolt up to the car.

- If you live anywheres that it snows. RULE NUMBER ONE CAMAROS AND FIREBIRDS AND OTHER SPORTS CARS don't go well on the snow, that's a reason why alot sale there sports cars up in maine 99% of the time.

Me i would just park it in my garage which i have a camaro and an 97 firebird, Has no rust. Due to the amount of the salt they put on the roads here, your car gets rusty pretty fast.

Re: Great my first accident!

Well, I've learned my lesson though it actually didn't handle that bad in the snow but, I get to hear more about "not driving Camaros in the snow" at my club meeting. And I don't see how I could scam the insurance company..I intend to get everything that was damaged on the car from the accident fixed. Though its looking like it might be a write off. Thing still drives just fine, but I think there was some frame damage.

Did I read this thread totally wrong, because it sounds like he is the one that got hit. So it should not matter what he drove, whether its a 4X4 truck, or a Camaro, she still would have hit him.

I live in the north and drive one of my 3rd Gens year round, without a problem. You just have to remember what you are driving that is all.

Sucks to get in an accident either way. Good luck on the repairs.

I have to agree. Mine isn't bad in the winter, as long as i don't drive like an idiot. Though, not driving it in the winter is a good idea still, to protect it from the other idiot on the road, lol. As far as i'm concerned, i'm gonna look for a $500 winter beater, so i don't have to watch her rust away.

I agree it is always good to have a second winter car, especially when you can afford it.

That is why I own more than one 3rd Gen Firebird.
One for daily driving and one for summer fun. I just enjoy driving them so much I like to drive them year round.

Re: Great my first accident!

I remember reading through your build not that long ago. That really sux, make sure they fix it right for you. Definitely go with new or repro parts. I would also have them check the entire car over, that door corner looks like the door was pushed into the rear quarter/B pillar. It may be fine, but it may also have tweaked the chassis enough to cause problems. Does the door open and shut fine? No binding or rubbing? There isn't much in the way of a frame under that part of the car IIRC.

To the guys who think these cars can't be driven in the winter, think again. My best friend drove 3 of them in the winter for years and got everywhere he needed to go, including up and down his parent's driveway(1/4 mile dirt road plowed with a pickup truck and not salted). I agree that they shouldn't be driven in the winter, and don't plan on driving mine at all from October-April, but that doesn't mean they can't be driven in snow if you know how.

Re: Great my first accident!

For those advising not driving in the snow- well, DUH! Thanks for the advise AFTER THE FACT! Nothing pisses me off more than guys giving advise in hindsight...

I can get rear ended by some idiot here in California, or you can in Kansas, so give the guy a break!

Try 1A Auto on ebay or check the yards if the dealer is no use- either way, her insurance is responsible... and NO MORE TALK ABOUT RIPPING OFF the insurance companies- the rest of us pay for dorks like that!!!!
