spray painting

Hi guys, I am thinking about spray painting my work van. I have seen on some other websites that spray paint does not look so bad and that it will last for a long time, is this true? I am thinking of sanding down, bondoing some spots and priming my entire van and then spray painting it with rustoleum flat black. My friend did this to his blazer except his is a camo color and it looks pretty good. I am not very picky on how it should look, I just want it to look a little better than it does now. So what do you think, is spraypaint worth the effort?

u say workvan as in you drive up to customers locations in it? or its just a pos u keep around to move stuff with? cause if u drive around to customers locations with it i would do most of the body prep yourself to save money and take it to maaco and get their one stage special. rattle can can look good but most of the time it doesnt

i agree,no one will take you seriously if you pull up in a van that you can tell has a rattle can paint job from across the road. iether go to maaco or borrow an air compressor from a friend and get some cheap omni paint and a harborfreight hvlp spray gun and do it your self.

Re: spray painting

my friend painted his truck with a single stage paint from eastwood, it only costed him like $110 (for a gallon) and it looks much better then any rattle can job would and Im sure it'll last longer.

Re: spray painting

I've painted two vehicles with Rustoleum Flat Black. One was done with rattle-cans, looked terrible. The other was done with a crappy air compressor and a really old paint gun that I have no idea how to adjust properly... That one actually looked fairly good.

I say if you want to go super cheap, rattle-can is the way to go if you really don't care what it looks like. But, on the other hand, for a few extra dollars, it'll look exponentially better doing it with a paint gun.
