Do you have sub frame connectors, that will deffinately help. i have pictures of the bracing. you pretty much want to keep tha car from folding in half or twisting
No the division I race will not allow them ok I actaully printed out all youre pics to use has reference. So basically brace the doors and run 1-2 bars side to side on the floor to brace. Any other weak points you saw? My fear is Ill do this and the car will just bend up on me

If it was a "man car" your GF would refuse to ride in it Ok, maybe she'd 'ride' in if she's that type of girl

I'd do like mad hatter did, or run some braces from the rear shock towers to the dash by the a-pillar. Or if you are dropping the cage in place from the other car you might just have to run it across the door jams.

i am not sure about the jack stands. depends where they are i guess. make sure that the suspension is loaded, i would put on the ground with the tires on just to make sure, after that it is common sense. it is going to want to buckle in the middle like a taco so brace it, and a side to side to keep it from twisting. there is no one right way, just make sure it doesnt twist or fold. if it does, well your car is ****ed. good luck keeping it straight. put it on the ground and use common sense and you will be fine. any questions let me know. i will pm you my phone number if you need it to help you along. just let me know

You live in chicago so you now it is cold has hell !!! so in the summer I completely took the car apart so that I wouldnt be fighting nuts and bolts in 15 degree weather. Thank you again for youre number also. Youre probally gonna get a ring when the time comes !!

Sticky! And wow Madhatter you done an excellent job. I really am surprised at how quick that's taken place. I just recently made a post about turning a hard top to a T-top because I already have my 88 Camaro Rs and its a T-top. But It has a bad motor so I am buying this other 88 Camaro RS only thing is...its a hard top. But it runs and everything the only thing with it right now is when you start it up it wakes up the whole neighborhood. It has a 350 in it and no exhaust on it right now. But I was mainly buying it to be a donor car for my white 88. However though now that I am looking at the new 88 I am thinking that I may just want to keep that one and sell the white one. The body is in alot more better shape then the white T-top. But I this new hard top to be a T-top. But I did find another post on a another site while I was researching. And their way seemed alil more simpler then yours. But your way sounds slightly difficult at least for me considering I don't weld and I do not have the tools to do so. My neighbor who builds race cars however does so I may have to convince him or pay him.

But I will post the other link I found and this guy did it himself also. But I really do want your opinion on whether to convert the new red 88 into a T-top or to just switch all the parts over to the white T-top. But yea you did an awesome job!!! Good work!!

You remind me of a friend of mine he taught himself off of cars and he can do just about anything he wanted to one and make it work.

You are correct his way is much easier to do. unfortunately for you, unless you sell both cars and buy yourself a fourth gen this means nothing to you. this method will only work for fourth gens, as that is how they were designed. once again the fourth gen were made so the conversion can be done that way and will in no way work on a third gen. as far as doing it or swaping it, that is a choice only you can make. take a good look at both cars in turns of rust rot and decay. what do the floor pans look like between cars. maybe post pictures in a thread, alot of both cars and get others opinions on which one to save and which one to toss. wish i could be more helpful

Yea I was afraid of that answer lol. I wasn't sure if it could be done that way or not but I was hoping so considering thats alot more easier to do then cutting the top off. I knew the roofs were different. And thats what my man and are are talking about....between which ones body was in the best shape and I think hands down its the red 88. But I am getting a video camera hopefully soon and I will take vids of me working on the car if I switch bodies or parts. Because I am learning so anyone's opinion is welcomed. And I will definitely take pics when I buy a new digital camera lol because my daughter broke mine along with my cell. But that should be happening soon. I will show ya pics of both. Eventually. And nah you helped alot actually by posting this...like I said I have the guts to do alot of things but cutting my own roof off my car when I'm clearly not as experiences as you....lol it wouldn't turn out good...but I got guy friends and they say they're to teach me and help me work on it. So I think I will be ok. But I know none of them are able to teach what you posted lol so I think I shall just take it to a shop possibly unless my neighbor would help out.
