T-top wonders

alright... i searched, but i was getting frusterated weeding through everything.
i want to turn my Camaro into a T-top. i had an idea of taking the body off of a t-top firebird that i may be buying, and dropping it on my frame.
would this be possible? well.. it is probly possible, but is this practical?

not practical at all . if you really want "T"tops ( they are great ) you would be better off tradeing cars . sorry , just being real .

Funny you should say that. I just made a seven hour drive to iowa and back and I got 30 mpg. 450 miles and i only used 15 gallons... so why can you only afford to drive a v6?

well, with gas being 142.9/L here, and me having bills to pay... a V8 isn't exactly the pay i want to spend that extra money i get. and most of my driving is town driving, which kills my milage, and the closest city with somehting to do in costs me about 1/4 of a tank there and back... but ithis isnt about my gas.... i belive the topic is about t-tops..

It would not be possible to pull an F-body's body off of it's frame since it's a unibody car meaning that the frame and the body are one piece. You could, however cut the roof off of a t-top car and weld it in place of your hard top. If you sand off the paint down to the metal on the B-pillars you can actually see the seam where the roof was welded on. It's about the same height as the top of the windows when they're rolled up.

Re: T-top wonders

there was just a thread where a guy posted a ton of info on how to swap roofs, I wouldn't attempt this if you dont have much experience though. and FYRCHKN is right, these cars are uni body so they have no frame but to correct him the seam on the b pillar is where the quarter was brazed on, not welded

Re: T-top wonders

check out my post on how to do it. it isnt really that hard, but it is fairly time consuming. if this wasn't my first sports car, and i didnt have alot of history with my car i would have found another, but since i love my car and have history with it i topped it.

Dude that extra money would be nothing, i'm surprised people worry so much about gas these days thinking they will save a penny here...or a penny there...bah its almost trivial.

They are just pennies...and no matter what you will always pay a premium for gas

But there is a thread here explaining how to chop off your roof and put T-tops on.

Uhhhhhh. Dose this seem "out there" to anyone else????

What was your average speed?!!?!?

I'm putting a 86 305 TPI in my camaro (5 spd) and I'm planning on driving about the same distance to NC Outer banks this summer. I've been a little leary of it due to the mpg that I thought it would be getting. I figured my honda would do better. If it gets that kind of MPG I'm definatly going to take it!!

Re: T-top wonders

I just drove from Tampa Florida to New Hampshire, and i filled up about 4 times i want to say. It was some rediculous low number maybe 5 times though, ill pay attention in a month when i drive back down, but yea, crusing on the HWY these cars get pretty good mileage, i was suprised as hell and this was with a 350. Its stop and go that kills mileage with my car.

Not out there at all. I've hit 30 mpg a few times on the highway and average 25-27 mixed. I drive 75-80 on the highway and I've been running the A/C since February.
