removing door protecter

i was wondering how do you remove the thing under the door handle that goes all the way to the fender that protects the door from getting hit. will there be holes after its removed? im just wondering because it makes the cars look 100% cleaner

Re: removing door protecter

no there will not be any holes under the stripe. Its just held on by some adhesive or 2 sided tape.

Re: removing door protecter

You can use a heat gun to soften it, or you can get a special tool from Classic Industries that slides underneath it, cutting the adhesive from the body. Any place that deals in restoration probably has them. If you don't want to buy it, just take a look at theirs in the catalog, you might be able to fab up something similiar

Fishing line.....it's that simple. Start at one end and slip the line under the tip of the guard. Work the line up and down kinda like a saw. Usually when you get about 8-10" loose you can just grab it and peel it the rest of the way off. Rubbing alcohol works good to get the adhesive residue off without taking off the paint.

This method also works great on emblems, dealer tags, and whatever else is stuck on using double sided tape.

I agree with FYRCHKN, fishing line, welding wire, string, basically anything like those will work fine.

and just for the record, on some thirdgens these strips were riveted on, but that was I think up till 84.
