Driver Side Quarter Panel Big Dent

I have a big dent in my driver side quarter panel. the lowest point probably needs to come out about 2-3 inches I tried hammering it out, using a hammer and a block of wood. I couldn't even budge the dent, probably cause it is on the edge of the panel. I already checked how much it would cost to get it done by someone else, he said he would charge $350, and he just does it for a hobby and a little extra money, i don't even want to know what an shop would charge. So i really want to take this dent out, don't know much about how to do it, any help would be appreciated. i am replacing the bumper cover and light, so dont' worry about those, i am just wonderin about the quarter panel

it will need to be pulled out to get everything lining up properly again, I'd say $350 is a good deal

Re: Driver Side Quarter Panel Big Dent

yeah, the guy was pretty cheap and did good work, but i paid $350 for the car!!! I don't really want to pay more than $100, which i know is way to low, so if i could do it myself, thats the only way i am gonna get it fixed. My brother has some kinda tool that he used that i could probably borrow. You drill a hole and put this tool in the hole and it has a hook and you pull it out. Is that what i need to pull it out, or am i wrong

thats the old version of a "stud welder" this welds studs to the panel then you put a slide hammer over the stud and pull it out, this way theres no holes in the panel so less chance of rust starting later on.

but judging by that picture I'd use a frame machine to straighten that but you can only use what you have!

a slide hammer ehh, its gonna take more then a slide hammer. All i can say if you want to cheap it out is take out that interior panel and see if you can hit it harder to get it all the way out get a stud gun or that slide hammer, and beat it out bondo it up prime it and paint it.

i think the cheapest way for you would be to get a patch panel its a bunch of work though but it looks like you have a lot of work to do no matter what

this wouldn't fix the problem, the gap around the gas filler door would still be messed up and numerous other gaps wouldn't be straight, you need to pull it out and massage the metal back to its original form.

Re: Driver Side Quarter Panel Big Dent

Here is a old trick that works in just the right places.

Try letting the air out of a basketball. Then shove it behind the panel inside the car. Then slowly add air to the basketball. You might have to wedge a piece of wood between the floor or the inside. I have seen it pop out dents in doors and quarter panels.

You will stil have to metal work the spot, but it may get you there faster.

You might even try a port-o-power or bottle jack. You will need a friend to hold the bottle jack in place. Then put a flat piece of wood on the inside of the quarter panel and have at it.

Re: Driver Side Quarter Panel Big Dent

I'd let a pro handle that one. And at $350 thats a steal. What does the rest of the car look like(condition)?

Re: Driver Side Quarter Panel Big Dent

The rest of the car looks soso. no more dents, but a couple rough spots where the last owner used some bondo, and a scratch here or there, paint isn't the greatest, but i got it for $350 and it ran, so i can't complain. oh, and its got a brass eagle on the front, can't forget that, haha. I drilled a couple holes, put in this tool, no idea what is called, used to pull out dents. wasn't getting much progress, so tomorrow i am gonna hook up a come along to my dads tailgate, then hook that up to my dent puller, and hope that works. will post results
