Black Engine Bays From Factory???
Hello guys, I have a question that I've been trying to figure out for as long as I've owned my 91 Camaro (almost 10 years). I have a LO3 RS and it has the Arctic white exterior paint. I always thought GM painted the bays the color of the car, but my engine bay is black not white. Most of the pics I see of white 3rd gens on the net have white bays, but every now and then I do see a white one with a black bay. I have had people tell me one of the previous owners painted it black and others tell me that it was like the from the factory. I don't think either of the previous owners ever had the engine out before to properly paint it so I'm leaning torwards the factory doing it.....anyone know for sure?????

body color from factory always!! you have to logically think that no one at gm would waste the time and resources to paint a single engine bay black.... how ever i heard of some dealers offer a "winterized option" to customers and they usually spray a shity rubberized coating on the undercarriage and sometimes they will do the engine bay
and that is not a factory option. i doubt anyone would take the time to do it right so start unbolting things on the bay its going to be white under the parts you unbolted

Re: Black Engine Bays From Factory???
Aghhh, I was hoping that wasn't the case. What you are saying does make alot of sense though, it would have been retarded for gm to take the time to do the bay black. What I have is definitely not undercoating (it's high gloss black and actually doesn't look that bad) so that must mean one of the previous owners was a little over-ambitious and had some spare spray paint. Oh well, I'm planning on repainting the body someday so I'll probably go back to the white...I think it looks alot better. thank you for the imput!!!!
