Flat blacked engine bay.

I have the motor out of the car right now for a build that I'm doing and i decided that i would paint the crummy engine bay black so the motor would get more attention. Also this makes it 100x easier to paint the rest of the car and not worry about the bay no matter how many diffrent colors the car goes threw.

Here are the results.

Looks good! I used some of that flat black ceramic paint that is good to 1200 degrees and I love the way it looks!

Maybe I should have used the high heat stuff, but someone got me the paint so I just used that. Do you think it will be alright?

Re: Flat blacked engine bay.

wow, you did it for real, for real. It's easier with a carb car. you can actually just remove everything. I have to many wires. That looks really great though. good job!

Re: Flat blacked engine bay.

well its not always easier om a carbed car or less wires. lol both of my thirdgens had tons of underhood wireing and took me hours to sort it out on my 86 and im still working on it on my 82 lol.

Re: Flat blacked engine bay.

See, that would be ideal if I had the cash to do the engine and the paint at the same time. However, if you flat black the engine bay, you can paint the car 30 times and not have to worry about spraying the bay. Flat black matched it all. Anyway, the motor is Chevy orange so it's going to stand out in there.

No. Everything was taken down to bare metal, hit with etching primer, high build primer and then light primer before the paint went down.

Re: Flat blacked engine bay.

I think you can't go wrong with a flat black engine bay, it's a throw back idea that matches like other people have said any color the body might be. I think it looks great!
