wetsanding and buffing questions???

Well...just painted the camaro, and I decided I would try to wet sand some of it to see if i could clean it up a bit...

I've never wet sanded before so I had 2000 grit and wet sanded a spot and it turned light gray, freaked me out, but I now know its normal, so I went and got some turtle wax rubbing compound and scratch remover but it didn't make it go back to black...I was doing it by hand but it never got darker???

Should I get a different compound, also is the only way to do it with a buffer? I'm probably just going to fix the spots I did though because I do not have a buffer...

If you are wetsanding...you need a buffer, it's that simple....I don't think anything by Turtle wax will be a true "compound..." It may be a "cleaner", I could be wrong....
Look for something by 3M or Meguiar's.
You should be able to get the gloss back by had on the spots if you used 2000g but you will really need some elbow grease...

Re: wetsanding and buffing questions???

i know it is not the greatest but harborfreight has some cheap electric buffers. and ya i would go to a body supply shop and get some good 3m compounds and whatever they recomend for a specific pad for the compound you get!!

Re: wetsanding and buffing questions???

well i assume you know the process here. You wet sand than CAREFULLY buff with a buffer (not a grinder) than apply and buff with the random orbital buffer. So I always use two types.
