Hi everyone

I recently took a stupid looking giant metal spoiler thing off of the back of my 89 Formula, and just got a used stock Formula spoiler to put on in its place.

My question is, is it a simple screw-on, plug in the light kind of installation? Or do I need certain hardware, etc.

I don't see holes where a stock spoiler used to be or anything, just holes where the lame spoiler (one of those big goofy metal ones that ricers put on the backs of theirs) was. So I have a feeling that holes will need to be drilled.

Also, I noticed some typical cracking in the corners of the spoiler. Is there any way to fix this? I don't want the spoiler to fall apart on me, or rust out the screws and stuff. I can't afford a fiberglass one, as much as I want it just so I don't have to deal with the rubber one.

there is supposed to be little tabs that were tack welded to the frame of the rear hatch window. You need those to hold the parts that go up along the glass on both sides. After that, you need to fill the holes of the old spoiler and drill new holes (should be huge holes underneath the hatch, possibly with rubber/plastic plugs in them). Wouldn't happen to have gotten this car in NY? I knew sumone that did that to thier car. It was sad.

hahaha now that you mention it, I did pick it up in NY, not far from my house near Kingston. I saw it and was like "nuh uh. That spoiler is not happening" lol

I'll have to check for those tabs. If they aren't there, is there a way to get some and weld them on? or would I be better off getting a base Firebird spoiler?

As long as the stocker covers the old holes, it shouldn't be too hard just position, drill holes (since you said there are no holes that match up) and mount with nuts that fit the bolts on the spoiler.

this is what i do to mark for the holes, cut strips of cardboard long enough to A) fit over mounting bolts B) long enough to stick out from both ends of spoiler.
place spoiler on car and position to where you want it, tape down the cardboard securely to car and remove spoiler. drill holes remove cardboard replace spoiler and bolt up. do any wiring need.

please tell me that car is not red...

if you get some sheet metal, a dremel, and a tube of jb weld, you should be able to figure out where the tabs go and install them. A lot of people end up shattering the hatch or ruining the tab anyways removing it.

HOW EXACTLY DO YOU REMOVE THE SPOILER, I HAVE A 89 T/A?

should be 6 i believe bolts underneath the hatch panel inside the car. You need to remove that trim, and possibly big black plugs to get to the nuts on the underside. Remove them, and then i believe that you slide the spoiler foward to release the hooks on the sides of the window that hold the fronts of the spoiler.
