"CAMARO" in rear bumper?

ive always wondered what it would look like to have "CAMARO" sunken into my rear bumper like the (forgive me) mustangs have. seems like it would be fairly easy to pull off just cut out the lettering and put a sheet of the bumper material behind it anyone know where i can find of pic of it?

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

I wonder if you could do it with a sandblaster or something. Just to cut into whats there, not go all the way thru. A good stencil, a steady hand and a dremel tool could work too.

No. The urethane bumper cover is about 3/16" thick. The only way would be the cut thru it, then glue a backplate behind it.

But if you went an 1/8th inch in and left some of the old bumper it would be smoother. Then glue a reinforcement piece behind it. Or even just do a reinforced patch with some urethane repair adhesive and glass cloth.
If you did cut clear thru you could do a plastic repair on the back using a piece of a bumper and then smooth the letters with your finger before the adhesive dries, and try to sand it to a uniform thickness and shape. It would eventually crack around the edges though, being such a hard line. Still ... I'd give it a try.

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

This may not be exactly what you want, but you could have the letters airbrushed back there and it would be 90% passable to everyone who saw it. You can airbrush a relief type of lettering that looks 3 dimensional. Just a thought!

bigbirds suggestion sounds like the most logical to me anyway.
Besides, where would you find a urethane bumper section already done with
CAMARO ?unless you planned on puting MUSTANG ?
If you want camaro I guess you could find a letter from several different cars however it might look like this instead
cAMaRo
on top of lots of time and filler/fiberglass!
If you want to do it,I would also say just have it airbrushed.

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

that sounds pretty cool in my opinion. I know what you mean with the backing plate. Doessn't sound to hard either. If i had one more spare rear bumper id give it a shot. Id need one for the extra backing plate. If done right it could look pretty awesome. -Matt

you could also get the chrome(or what ever color u want) inserts that go over the "CAMARO" on the berger panel on forth gens and try them out. except it would be uplifted instead of engraved

isn't that 4th gen piece like a hard plastic similar to the plastic on taillights?
If so,I don't think it would mold into a urethane bumper very well.Besides,if it did work,it would only cover maybe a third of the cover in the center (barely passing the license plate on each side) weren't you looking to cover the entire bumper like the mustang?

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

yeah, nice idea and i think it would look sweet!
I just think the airbrush idea would be better than trying to fab,cut a piece out of a urethane bumper.
Overall,I think the airbrush art would run way cheaper than misc. cut up bumpers all over the garage without a finished product.

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

Maybe the owner can give you more info on his. I can't tell if it is just lettering on the bumper, or embedded lettering.

Re: "CAMARO" in rear bumper?

looks to me that he bought a 4th gen "camaro" lettering that is used to accent the word on the back. SO my idea is that instead of sinking the letters in like mustangs why not sit them out and paint them to match?
