Power antenna

I am going to change my standard antenna to power antenna. I have the correct antenna (power) to make the change. Do I need a different type of bracket or do I use the one on the car? thanks.

Re: Power antenna

You should be able to use the original.

But have changed out two, on power antenna cars while
ordering out antennas from GM Direct parts that were suppose to be original.

They weren't they were universal for our cars.
Had to slightly rotate antenna to clear and make up
small bracket.

Easy to do, I used 1" heavy plumbers strap. 1 hour job.

Were you able to put up your power antenna? How did you go about it?

Re: Power antenna

The cars I replaced them had the Bose system and
are setup that when you turn the radio on the power
antenna would come up and retract when you turned it off.

There are three or four wires, I forget, think the forth
wire chassis ground that come thru the passenger compartment into the inner fender.

New masts wires were color coded and matched car
wiring.
Think you could wire in a three way switch to power if
car not setup like the above.

Re: Power antenna

Lme explain what I did on my car.I went to a salvage yard and got an antenna from another GM car,not a firebird.I had to make my own bracket, but thet is beside the point.I got as much of the wiring as I could. The main thing I want to tell you is ALL these cars have a place in the main harness for a wire that activates your antenna,no matter what kind of stereo you have.On any car, like mine, you just have to fix your main harness with his lead wire.I used the plug from the donor car to plug into my harness,I think it is the Green wire. other note,I also have a factory service manual that I used to guide me but it is not complicated.I hope this helps
