Re: Quick door handle question

You can do that or you can find another door handle at a junk yard from any s10 or s15, don't know the year range, or any firebird or camaro, 82-02 (yes 4th gen included)

Re: Quick door handle question

The flop is caused by a broken spring (lift up on the handle and you may be able to see it). If you pick up one from the JY, make sure the spring is in intact as most will be broken.

Re: Quick door handle question

I picked up a replacement at Autozone. Putting it in wasn't the most enjoyable job with my big hands. One tip I found after I finished the job was to cut real threads on the studs with a die rather than using the self-cutting nuts. I had some trouble getting the self-cutters to "bite" and there isn't much room to work. Real threads probably would have been a lot easier.

I DID THE SAME THING ONLY, I PUT THE SELF TAPPERS ON TO CUT THE THREADS BEFORE I INSTALLED THEM AND THEN TOOK THEM BACK OFF. CUTTING THE THREADS ON THE WORKBENCH FIRST SAVED ME A LOT OF TIME IN THE END.

Re: Quick door handle question

I had the same problem with the bolts that come with the door handles, I just put another bolt on one of the studs after getting too tired and annoyed... hope I never have to take that handle off again because that bolt probably won't come off! but hey... "cross-thread is tighter"

I replaced my driver side like 2 years ago with a new 3rd gen style, wasnt the worst thing I ever did, but this past summer its broke AGAIN =( so im thinking of doing the 4th gen style door handles, i just dont know what they look like on a 3rd gen and havent seen pics or noticed them in pics on here, so if anybody has pics i would be very gratefull to you for posting them.

Re: Quick door handle question

I bought 2 new ones from Ecklers but ended up refinishing my originals as they were better quality, mine weren't broken just faded out.

they're the same thing, 4th gen ones just don't have the indent for the stickers so they're smooth. I beleive MN_formula did his...
