cant wait to see it done. take alot of pictures and keep us updated, a lot of us seem to be kinda interested on how its all gonna work!
Re: Anybody on here attempted suicide doors???
Point is, I'm tired of hearing it, and I'm not making apologizes anymore. These idiots will drop $30,000.00 on an engine, and then ridicule you for not sticking with the stock cheap plastic, boxy interior.
They'll pay some guy $20,000.00 to do a paint job and put some nice rims on their car, but if you decide to do something custom with your tail lights, they'll cry about it.
And don't even get me started about the idiots who throw around the word "Rice" everytime you change the wing on your car.
Go look at the "Get rid of your Amber" thread I made. It's practically a damn tech article about painting your tail lights, but because the only picture I could find at the time of a car that had done this had a huge wing on the back, the entire thread was almost hijacked with people b*tching about the wing. And it wasn't even my car. I didn't have a digital camera at the time to take photos of the mod.
And that crap was back in 2002.
So don't tell me I'm being too hard on these idiots, because little has changed in 10 years. We should be applauding people who try something different. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have 4th gen plastic gas tanks, we wouldn't know the 4th gen seats fit, we wouldn't have any photos of anything except stock vehicles.
Suiciding doors is classic hot rod sh*t. And these guys are whining about it like someone is hacking up a mint Road Runner.

My personal opinion:

I'd go with suicides any day. Good on ya for sticking to your guns with all these people telling you not to do it.

Re: Anybody on here attempted suicide doors???
Dude, all I'm saying is this is not high school, you shouldn't care what others think cause it's your car. Some people are going to like it some are not. If you like it then nothing else matters. That is why we have these swaps cause those guys didn't care they knew what they wanted and did it.
I agree with you but don't agree with ranting about it.
If you want to keep your car stock, so be it. It's your decision. I respect that, and I have no problem with it.
But I'm sick and tired of these guys jumping into threads complaining and generally putting cars down just because they don't have any creativity or choose to use it. That's the difference. Particularly the idiots that throw around the word "rice" at anything that isn't stock.

I wouldn't know, never been a high school girl :P
But seriously, let's all stop with the rage and encourage the OP for doing something a little different.

The closer the pivot point is to the body (rearward) and the farther to the outside the more your door will be able to swing. From where the pivot point appears to be in the picture, the hem flange on the door is going to be traveling backward and into the body pretty fast 10-15degrees.

Re: Anybody on here attempted suicide doors???
Yeah a goose neck hinge would let the door swing over 90 degrees. I can't think of a vehicle we ever bench marked that had that kind of set up though on entry doors. I think you can get plenty swing without going to that effort. On the other hand a door that swung back across the rear wheel would be something to see. You'd need a rope tied to it to close it once you were in the car.

Re: Anybody on here attempted suicide doors???
id try these autoloc hinges, they are pretty good at swinging the door away from the body as they open, as they have a j-shape to them, used them on a sport truck at work one time.

they also have those safety actuators for suicide doors like posted earlier, with the pins that keep the door from opening in the wind.
