What caused this damage to underside?

I don't know the history of this car, but it looks like someone tried to jack the car up in a weak spot and caused the front fender to buckle out. But there are a couple other pretty bad dents that seem kind of strange to me. I don't know what they are or what could have caused them...maybe you do?

Re: What caused this damage to underside?

that car definitely had some jacking problems in its past. The fender is bowed outwards because someone tried lifting it from the pinch weld where the lower fender bolt is and actually broke it off and pushed the bottom mount of the fender upwards. It looks like you'll need to bend that part of the body back and weld on a new mount for the fender. A lot of people just don't know how to use proper lifting points. and our cars are too heavy to get away with pinch weld lifting like you can on some sub-compacts.

All in all, your damage isn't terrible. The only area that I think you need to fix is where the front fender mounts. The rest doesn't look serious enough to cause concern.

Re: What caused this damage to underside?

It's a well-known fact that nobody (not even dealers) knows how to jack or rack an F-Body. My 91 probably has 5 or 6 spots like that. Even my 02 that I bought brand new has bent up fenders because the dealership thought it would be a good idea to jack the car on those instead of my subframe connectors. Word to the wise: don't let ANYONE attempt to raise your car if you're not there showing them how to do it. These people are idiots and just don't understand.

Re: What caused this damage to underside?

Couldnt agree more. My former camaro had the bowed out passenger fender because someone wanted to lift it on the bottom of the fender. My new camaro i always have to instruct mechanics to use a floor jack to get the lift arm past my exhaust to the subframe. Its annoying but so far no bent up lower fenders.

Re: What caused this damage to underside?

Bad jacking/ jack stand placement, and it looks like it ate a speed bump or railroad tracks a little faster than it should have.

Re: What caused this damage to underside?

these cars are hard to jack up.......i put rectangular subframe connectors under my 87....these are bolted to the roll cage.......now i have a decent way to jack the car up without all the "noise"
