painting driver side door problem

Im trying to save a little extra cash if i can so i'm repainting my car door. There were a couple rust spots on the door but the surrounding paint looks nice a shiny so im just painting the spots.

Ive sanded it to the metal and smoothed it out and used a Rust-Oleum AUTO spray can thats rust preventive and a high gloss black. It looks great in the shade but when the sun hits the spot, their very noticeable. Ive buffed it, pianted it a few times, sanded with different grits, and tryed the Turtle Wax rubbing and polishing compound and it still looks the same.

Any have any pointers, ideas, or has anyone done something similar to this?

Re: painting driver side door problem

Is the Rustoleum paint color matched to the rest of your door? If not, I think that's your problem.

I think it does but it isn't as shiny as the car paint so i need to get it buffed to shine.

your never gonna get it to look right that way, you can buff with a buffer thats the best way to smooth the blend, but no other way to do it other then paintin the door. the whole door that is.

Believe it or not black comes in many colors. It's hard to say what your exact problem is ... or problems, I should say. Your car may be a base coat clear coat finish. The black on your car may be a little brown, gray or blue. Or maybe it's blacker than the black you bought. But unfortunately I think your biggest problem is you're trying to fix your car with a spray can. I've never done it with spary cans but you could try wet sanding the area with a very fine grit paper like 1000 grit. Then clear coating over it. It could be better or it could be worse. The only thing I can guarantee is it will be a bigger spot ... and that may not be good.
