many will frown and try at your own risk but a flat head screwdriver has helped me in rough times and didnt break anything inside the lock

but like i said before find the wires behind the switch and short the wires to pop the trunk.

also jsut for hahas check your fuses the switch might be good but no power to it.

you got 4 choices take your pick

replace switch

use a screw driver

short the wires/check your fuses

get a crowl bar and pry it open for good haha just kidding

a 5th option depending on how flexible you are fold down your rear seats climb into your trunk area or hover over into the trunk area pry off the plastic panel if you don't care about it or dont mind getting another one

and you have direct access to the pull down motor

get a socket wrench and unbolt the 3 bolts and theres nothing to keep your hatch down i dont recommend this but its an option

thanks, i checked the fuse, now i need to check for power, if i have power i will try to do it that way. i have a switch coming that i found on ebay, but i need to replace the locks any ways so if i can't get it i will try the flathead i just don't want to damage anything doing it, the lock i could care less. thanks again.

sounds good, if you do decide to use a screw driver just get small one with a tip no wider than quarter of an inch or so fits right in and i was able to open my doors that way

and afterwards my keys still worked locking and unlocking

Re: 1991 Firebird need to get my hatch open....

best way to do it...is the way ive been doing it on my cars i bought w/o keys.

You have to crawl to the back of the car and pull the interior panel at the back of the car away from the metal backing. Mind you, the hatch lock goes though this panel so it doesnt come all the way out. Then you have take a screwdriver or such device to turn the hatch release and if done right "POP" and that hatch will release.

Another way is to go in the hatch again and remove the tail lights and get to the lock and remove it and put in a new lock unit
