what are my options?
what are my options?
as some of you may know, two years ago i repainted my car, well this winter ive noticed some problems showing up...because i wasnt able to spend the time to take off all the body panels such as the GFX, some paint down there has chipped....not a huge concern of mine right now...what really has me concerned is that up near my t-top on the rear half of the car, i've found a spot of rust
....and in order to properly repair it before it gets too bad, i'll ahve to sand down that spot, primer it and im sure you guys all know the rest.
but mymain question though is that if i do this, then what are my options for repainting that section? like is there any special technique to spot it in, or do i have to sand and repaint the whole two rear quarter panels (cuz they both connect to the roof and was always told that in orderto get a good transition, always repaint a bodypanel section). i have time to plan this out as summer isnt going to be here for another 3-4 months, but i still would like to have a plan in my head lol

Re: what are my options?
You don't mention what system you used to paint the car last. Base/clear? Single stage? Metallic? In some ways it makes a difference ... but mostly it doesn't. For the best results and so you don't have blend lines you will probably need to paint the 1/4's. The roof at that point is pretty wide, and with only a roll and no hard body line it will be really hard to hide a blend. Hopefully you used a base clear system and will only have to reclear the 1/4's.

yeah, it is basecoat/clearcoat...sorry i forgot to mention that and also to mention that its also metallic, you cant really see it well in the picture but it is.

Re: what are my options?
the metalics may not match perfectly
depends on what kind of painter you are
repair the rust and dust a bit of paint over just the area
sand the area a bit further than you are gonna spray
and then do some paper tucks to let a little of the overspray dust the outside of the area
forgot to mention to use 400 or 600 grit
you will have to clear the whole panel unless you are a bad ash
if you are very good at blending then you can just wetsand the new clear into the old
I have only met one person that can pull this off and its not me! for sure
there are many other good painters on these boards that may be able to add to this
