hood sticks

this is the second firebird i've touched and both hood latches stick. I pull the release I can fell it release but the hood doesn't pop. I have to pull up on the back corner by the windshield( I don't like doing it) to get it to pop. Does't anyone have any idea what is sticking and how to possibly fix it
Any help would be appreciated

I had good luck with simply cleaning and relubing the latch and the portion of the cable that was exposed.
