what is the best way to fix small chips in paint?
I figure the best way would be to get a small amount of the color and use a tinny brush like that found in a nail polish thing and dab it on little by little. Then when it is finally hard and filled to the right height, use some very high grit sandpaper, like what is used to wet or color sand and give the area a little rub down. Is this totally off? I have a custom color painted car so it is going to be a little tough to get the pain, but saying I do, you think it is easy to fix small nicks?

im guessing that it is bc/cc. if you go that route. you want to put it on in very thin coats, with 20, 30 minutes in between coats, build it up and then buff out. if it is a metallic or pearl color, it will be more noticeable. the other route you can go is to, sand the area lightly and add a spot glauze to build up the area, sand flat. then respray bc with airbrush, or minigun feathering out the area slighly, and clear over the panel, or use a blending agent to clear over the repaired area only. guys do it either way, and their are the good and bad aspects to both.

And if it is a clearcoat finish you need to put some clear on the spot after you build up the color. Metallics aren't going to look great because the flake settles out at a different rate than when it's sprayed on but it's usually better than a chip.

Thanks guys, it is just an egg shell white. It is a bc/cc deal though. I will start working on getting some of the paint. Then I will try the small brush way first. Since it is less expensive and the paint is still 99% fine. I just wanna be able to touch up. I ding my doors a lot like a fool.
I will post pics when I get the paint and put the first coat on and so on. Maybe I can get pointers as I go building up.
Thanks for the help so far. I am sure I will need more later!

I have a big spot in my front bumper from pulling forward a little too far, that i will have to repair this same way. I still have some paint in a jar from when i painted the car and was thinking of building up the paint and then sanding it down with some 1200 gritt and then shooting some spray can clear and re-sanding.
