front end is messed up. geico says its a near total loss. what can i do to keep the car but get a check from them to fix it? thank you.

 

Nor sure about Cali or if it even varies from state to state or company to company but when my 300ZX was totaled I mentioned my desire to keep it and State Farm told me it would cost me 10% of the value which they'd take off my check they were going to give me. It would have also received a salvage title.

if its totalled and u think you can fix it. you can buy it back from the state or junk yard or insurance company and get something like a salvage title talk to your insurance company and the dmv

 

Ask them what price they are using as a total loss threshhold. Do your homework. Get prices on your own of similar cars that have sold or are for sale. Make a list of any extras and any recent work you have done to your car. Make sure they are using a value that is representative of your car. If the car isn't at a shop already and you can still drive it, take it to a shop and get another estimate. If it is at a shop talk to them about NOT totaling your car. If they have an accurate estimate and know what the cost will be they may agree to not exceed their estimate so the insurance company will be assured thet they aren't going to get a huge supplement after the job is done.
If they do total it just let them know you want to buy the salvage. It's your car ... they can't take it from you. Good luck.

 

insur. agent told me same thing, wanted to total, i said no. i went and found parts, gave him a lower cost on replacement, they cut me a check, i kept the car and didnt have to worry with a salvage title.granted, i fixed it myself, made a little on the labor as well.

 

thanks to all. i brought it to my adjuster and they gave an estimate of like 2400 dollars. all that needs to be replaced is the front bumper and driver side quarter panel. they said they would do an evaluation and let me know by tomorrow what they come up with.

 

I was a victim too put repaired it myself. What parts are damaged?
