Does any one make convertible kits 82-92?
I'm wanting to convert my 87 GTA to a convertible. Just wondering if anyone makes a kit, or am I going to have to find a wrecked convertible to do it? I had a 92 Convertible, and it was a great car, but I ended up trading it for a vette. Looking back, that was a mistake, but live and learn. My 87 is a T-top car, so I don't believe it would be all that hard to do. I'm pretty good with fabbing things up, so if they don't make a kit, i'll either build one, or get a wrecked convertible and swap everything over.

you have no idea how hard it will be to do this. i know there have been very. very, very few on these boards (I can only think of one off the top of my head) that have done this. Lots of cutting, welding, fabrication. Off the top of my head, and by no means is this all-inclusive, here's the skinny:
-Rocker reinforcements
-Modify front fenders
-Entire top frame support
-All the rare and hard to find vert only parts, like the #1 bow trim piece, windshield header panel, both of which should be available this year as repros but will be $$$ and chances are you won't find a nice used one
-Cut rear quarters to make it roof-less, also cap them to seal them (the spoiler doesn't do this, there should be actual metal caps welded on to make it weatherproof)
-If any of your measurements are wrong to start with and you put stuff in the wrong place, it will never line up right, and if you screw up where you put the top supports and brackets, that will NEVER work
It truley would be better to buy one already done by ASC. Truth be told, it would be better even to buy just a rolling chassis, it would be easier to swap the engine, trans, rear, interior, and heck the whole wiring harness for the car than to do this swap yourself.

Re: Does any one make convertible kits 82-92?
I figured it would be a pretty involved process, but not too sure about the front fender modification?? I can do any and all fabrication work needed. I have the tools/equipment/know-how to build every piece to do this. I was just wondering if anyone made a kit to do it as it would save time. If I can find a convertible, don't think I am above getting it, and just swapping my stuff to it.
Here are a few pics of the car in question. I actually just finished restoring this car. It was garbage when I first got it. You'd think i'd be satisfied with it, but I think I'm ready to hack it up, and make it a drop top...
