i think i would have went with the original i-roc hood , would have looked more original, still looks good though

 

Let me first start off by saying the car looks great. The shop did an amazing job so it seems from the pictures making everything line up and look good.

But... I can't help but ask why? I am sure you paid a pretty penny for all that work. I see cloning a Hemi Cuda or a 69 Yenko, but an IROC? There are plenty of real IROCs for sale. I am not saying what you did is wrong, and the car does look good. Just not sure why...

Also I too would have gone with the original IROC hood and the IROC wheels. I don't know what I like less, daytona hoods or outlaws. I have outlaws on my jeep and well lets just say I am not a fan!

Two thumbs up to the car though! Good work.

 

Awesome Camaro, looks like it was a nice clean rust free car to start with, perfect project IMO.

I am also cloning an 89 IROC to replace the one I lost 14 years ago, the problem is most IROC's are very beat up, abused and people still want high $ for a junk rusty car. I found a rust free/straight 89 2.8 for $200. Cloning an IROC is just like people cloning 69 Z28's for the last 40 years, to make the car look its best.

 

Looks very nice. You wouldn't still have the original front nose from your camaro would you? I've been kinda looking for another one of that style in good condition.

 

The daytona hood takes away from the classic lines of the car. I love the color and that has to be the fastest swap/resto I have ever seen.

I too "lost" an IROC 17 years ago on Dec. 23, 1991. Bought it new on June 2, 1989. I found it on August 2, 2008 and bought it back. All original, 85K, no rust, straight as an arrow, runs like a gem. It does need paint but whatever. I paid $5000. Did I over pay? Maybe a tad on the high end but it was the ONLY one in the universe that I had originally. Now I am sire there are many others out there in this price range...

#1 not all are beat up and abused or over priced.

#2 Not even close to the same as a 69 Z28... yet

I was not saying it was a bad idea, just wondering why not try to find a nice clean IROC and have all the stuff that his/yours/anyones clone will never have without paying out the wahoo for?

Thats just my opinion. I am done.

not a big fan of the rims , i would have gone with the original irocs if i was making my camaro into an iroc-z "clone"

 

dude dont let them get to you, i love the daytona hood, and i absolutely love the wheels! it seems we have the same style lol. not many people on this board that DONT drag race dont like the dip dish wheels. i like it a lot. great job. i got my base camaro for 350 bucks in decent condition. if i bought an iroc with in the same condition it would have been an easy 1500 bucks.

 

what is the exact style of those rims? how much did you pay for them if you dont mind me askin and were they used or new?

 

it's a long story...
I had a 1983 Z-28 and I bought a 1983 Camaro for the 350 that was in it and for the rims.
Swapped the rims and engine out & sold it for more than I paid for it.

 

then I swapped out all of the 83 parts on my Z-28 from an 83 style to an 85-90 style.

 

but I had to sell this one to be able to afford this paint job for my 1985.
and before you ask, I do not do this for a living. I built the Silver one as my dd, and I loved it, but it was too expensive to drive, lol. So I bought the red one to use as a dd, until it turned out to be better than my silver one. haha

I think it looks awesome Although the Daytona hood is not my cup of tea, I still think the car looks great and they did a great job on it. That red is very striking, love it

then I made the platform for the amp with the wires running underneath, but I didnt like the look of 2 seperate parts in my hatch area, so I did a little re-work to my sub box, and all the wires will run underneath, and there will be no seam at all.

The only think I took off the box was carpet and spacers. the top is still MDF, but the platform if plywood

Tell me what you think.

 

I have added the rocker emblems and fog lights

 

I notice that I have to straighten out my drivers side fog light, no biggie

 

Have you tried buffing the parking/ turn signal lights? It can make those cloudy lenses look new again.

I used some mild compound and swiped a set of taillights with my buffer...you won't believe the difference it made.

 

I did that to my front lenses, but didnt think about my rear lenses. Great idea. Thanks

I don't see many 3rd gens here, so one that is almost a twin is a pretty slim chance. I couldnt believe it, and he lives pretty close to me too, that was the real shocker.

How could I have not seen this car before, as he said he has had it for years.

 

oh and btw, that picture of the other car with you is a really great way to compare the blacked out headlights, to the regular red headlight pockets. ive been trying to decide if i want to black it out or not for the past 4 months. i think your car cleared it up that i wanna paint them black. thanks lol

 

I got the Iroc rocker and bumper emblems today.

Nice job on the conversion. I definitely like the look with the chin spoiler and ground effect much better. The paint looks amazing..........but the Daytona hood and those wheels kill it for me. I would definitely look for a set of iroc's in place of those outlaws. Honestly they only belong on trucks. Overall nice job though.

Use Iroc springs, you'll get the ride height correct. Iroc's also have a "quicker" steering gear box !
