Inexpensive way to do auto body
Inexpensive way to do auto body
I've been reading reading through some of the posts out here on how to get a decent paint job for a less expensive price. With the amount of chemicals that goes into the paint itself these days the cost of paint is going sky high. Well, I have two methods for you that you may have not even thought about.
One being if you would like to do all of your auto body work yourself are on a limited budget and would like to learn more about the trade, research your area for a vocational high school that offers auto body classes. Many vocational schools offer night classes to adults that will take you from A-Z on how to properly prep and paint your vehicle. We have a few customers that have done just that and ended up with a really nice paint jobs using their Jeeps as the class project.
The second is again, find a vocational school in your area and see if they'll take your vehicle in as a class project for them to learn on. The school will charge you for paint and repairs, but typically its way under what you would be charged from an auto body shop.
Hope this helps some of you

I agree, I go to a vocational tech school, and the rate we charge is $18 an hour (and it goes by the hours the job should take in a shop).

Re: Inexpensive way to do auto body
That's a pretty good idea, but with a wife, full time job, and a 6 month old daughter I really don't have time for a tech school. I don't even think there is one around where I live.
Besides, I prefer the old trial and error method myself.
.....And usually on the 3rd or 4th try I get very nice results.
