Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

Any way you could check while your at the yard? Compare the two.

I have an aluminum one I took off a 84Z (I think) at the JY. And it angles back at the corners. All I know for sure, is that I'll have to remove the honeycomb and put the honeycomb off my 91 Camaro on it.

I think you can still use it even if it is slightly different if you don't use the honeycomb. I know a few people who removed the honeycomb for "weight savings".

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

I have the same thing! I bought an aluminum Z28 front support off Ebay a couple of years ago and having replaced my rusted out rear support with one from a junker just recently I thought 'WTF, let's clean up that front one in storage and swap it out too!'
After spending a slow weekend stripping, sanding down and painting the aluminum support, I find that it is a DIFFERENT SHAPE to the one on my 91 Camaro!!!!!!
Anyone have this problem before? Can I remove the honeycomb off my old support, rivet it to the aluminum one and make it fit? Or have I just wasted my money and my time...?

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

You just have to swap your honeycomb off your car onto the aluminum bumper, so I've heard/read. Stevo, I've actually seen his car, (and a few other members) put one on his (their) 92 Camaro (or other years), but he left the honeycomb off (don't remember, but I'm pretty sure the others just swapped the honeycombs). I honestly don't see how it wouldn't work with the honeycomb swaped. Should be pretty straight foward swap.

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

I know FOR SURE.....IT WON'T FIT.

I had to replace my nose 2 weeks ago & have a 84 Camaro aluminum support.

Figured while I'm in there, I'd swap them out.

Not only are they shaped a little different, but even the attaching "feet" don't come even close to lining up!

I had always just heard the Firebird ones were just a bit narrower. Figured I'd cut, trim & be good to go. Nope. Wasn't gonna fit without a LOT of surgery. I do mean SURGERY!

If you can get it cheap, buy & resell it. Pretty easy to sell to the Camaro guys for a weight savings for them.

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

I guess as long as your interchanging camaro/camaro or bird/bird you can do it then.

I paid $40 for my 84 Z28 Aluminum bumper.

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

I've never noticed any difference in the bumpers, just the impact absorbers whether its bird or camaro?
Maybe Stephen or someone else thats absolutely sure can supply us with some pics of the differences?

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

I set the aluminum Camaro one on top of the GTA one, but didn't take a pic.

I'm SURE, but no pics. Others are welcome to buy one & spend their day to find out & take pics for us!

I have a pic of my GTA with the nose off, but not with the Camaro piece set on top to compare.

yeah man, that bird one looks a little taller now that I see a pic for reminders.

And dude!! What the hell did you do to your car to require removing the bumper and needing to replace the fenders??

Re: are these the same? bumper cover support.

Old man clipped the corner of my bumper, ripping that corner off & crinkling that fender backwards. I still need both fenders (bambi took the other one out) but the car is perfectly driveable & the fender damage to the other side isn't bad now, just some wrinkling.

Accident Pics

I'm actually considering putting on standard TA fenders on, with the vents. I like the vents, even though GTAs never had them. I build my cars to suit ME, not the masses, nor strive for perfection

Anybody wanna donate some fenders?

eesh!!! Sorry to hear that man.I don't have any fenders but I do still have the nose.
Looks like you need one to me anyway.
Remember, this is a donation but,the bus ride ticket has to come out of your pocket.

Anyway, the op still need any opinions or advice?
I don't want to get off topic here.

They aren't limited to just 4-cyl cars. Mine came of a Z28.

They were limited to 82-84.
