So I am going to do a rotisserie

I plan on doing a rotisserie on one of my third-gens very soon. Could anyone give me any tips on things I should watch for? Any information would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

There was a guy on here who had built one out of wood, looked to be pretty good - a lot of people were asking for his plans.. Maybe doing a search will bring up that link for ya!

Re: So I am going to do a rotisserie

is it a t-top? I assum the car will be fully striped with now doors etc. Are you wanting to know the best mounting points etc.

If its a t-top I would probably weld in a temp brace to keep the body from flexing as you roll it over. I've never done it before but from a pure structual point of view I think it would be needed.

I think you are referencing me...
I don't have any plans for it as it is at my dads and he lives about 2 hours away. I usually go up there to work on my car about 2-3 days a month at most and try to get as much done on the car when i'm there, which doesn't leave much time for anything else.

We still have the frame of the rotisserie in tact in his garage and i'd still like to eventually write up how he did it. As much as i have learned from this site it would be the least i could do.

I did not brace the body at all and looking back i wish i did. The car is back on the ground on its suspension and all looks well. But i guess i'll find out when it eventually goes for alignment.

Here are some pictures that might help if you are looking to build one...

Re: So I am going to do a rotisserie

I think its a rope to pull it because if you pull it at the towers it would break.

But that might just work for my monza race project since I have to repair so much rust (they rusted on the showroom floor) and that would be perfect. But I think I would rather borrow my buddies plasma cutter and get some scrap steel tubes and go to town with the welder. But the wooden one looks like it did the job rather well but I don't have a garage to keep it so it would get wet and warp.

Re: So I am going to do a rotisserie

It's a rope to pull it. We had one on each side. However we didn't move it around much as i didn't trust it. It was fine when it was stationary but the weight on those castors made for a jerky transportation. I think the ropes ended up giving out on us and you can see the straps that we used as a replacement in the other pics.

If you are going to be moving it around a lot then metal would probably be better. Ours was fine but i always hated moving it since it would sway back and forth a little. Having bigger wheels/casters on it would probably help too.

Yep. There was a little resistance from the bolt that it pivoted on and the wood rubbing each other, but not enough. A C clamp on each side worked fine.

Re: So I am going to do a rotisserie

At how many points does the rotisserie mount to the body? And where exactly?

Re: So I am going to do a rotisserie

My convertible weighed around 300-400 or so pounds, I could pick up the front of the car with 1 hand and the rear was a struggle but I could do it and I am average in size. But it was a vert so I would imagine a hard top or t-top would weigh a little more.
