Firebird needs paint!!

So i have a 1986 firebird trans am. There is no rust on body or the under carriage it just needs paint because it sat for years in the sun and the clear coat began to bubble and flake off. The only holes that are on the car are form the rear wing that i took off, there are also little dents that are barely noticable on the hood from a hail storm this is the way i bought the car. I was wondering would i be able to repaint the car my self if i have a paint booth available. The reason is im 17 years old and it is kinda costly to go for a paint job. I have some bondo expierience but no paint expierience. so what do you guys think should i try it?

Sure! The only way to learn is by doing. You may chose to pick a solid color over a metallic- just to make it easier.
Time with the type of products will help but if you can get paint for a good price and are willing to redo a panel or so if you have to. It can be a rewarding and sometimes frustrating thing to do.

I like to use a 2k primer sealer then block sanding.
Final sealer then base coat and clear.
Color sanding and then buff and polish.

It is a lot of sanding but in the end it is nice to look at the finished product and say "I did that!"

But since you have access to a paint booth, I suggest you do portions
at a time, like hood, front fenders, doors, & then the rest.
This way you can experiment, and get better. Any screw-up is limited
in scope. If you the do the whole thing and screw-up, then the
WHOLE THING is screwed up. And there WILL be screw-ups.

I don't know what you're budgeting, but expect several Franklins
minimum.

Good luck, & keep us posted w/ some pics.
