1988 FIREBIRD WRAP AROUND SPOILER REMOVAL.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS AS TO HOW TO REMOVE THE RUBBERIZED WRAP AROUND REAR SPOILER ON A 1988 GTA.. REMOVING THE TWO FASTENERS ACROSS THE REAR EDGE OF THE HATCH BACK IS A START..
HOW DOES IT DETACH FROM THE SIDES WHERE IT MEETS THE REAR HATCH WINDOW.. WE NEED TO REMOVE THE SPOILER TO TACKLE RUST THAT'S WEDGED BETWEEN IT AND THE PAINT..

THE RUBBERIZED SPOILER IS IN PRESTINE SHAPE.. NO CRACKS OR BLISTERS..

ANY HELP IN THIS DIRECTION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED..

Re: 1988 FIREBIRD WRAP AROUND SPOILER REMOVAL.

Pull the interior plastic hatch cover off....4 litle screws I believe.
Once under there, unplug the 3rd brake light & you will see the little bolts holding the wing on. 2 on the center 3rd brake support, 2 under the wing ends. The 3rd brake light will come up with the wing.
Pull those off & the wings slides SLIGHTLY forward (mabe 1/2"), unhooks from clips on the hatch & glass, then can be lifted off.

When doing this, have another person to lift the other side & take it off the car. They aren't exactly light & the lifts will hold the glass up.

he homemakes the STS units, and he's also right about the spoiler removal, I think the "horns" aren't screwed to the glass, just slid into place. Remove the bolts and then push forward (I think) and the horns will release...

Those "horns" have a stud head sticking down, that insert into the square left (forward) part of the clip that is welded to the glass frame, then the whole wings slides backwards into the slots in the clips. Then the small bolts in the rear, go through the decklid into the wing, to hold the wing down.
