1986 iroc rebuild X2

Well here is the second time I have rebuilt this car but the first time was just a trial run putting the bbc in and getting it going. Well here are the plans fix the crushed rocker on the passenger door replace the doors replace fenders strip the paint and repaint hugger orange and white rally stripes. Black interior full exhaust like stock but big enough for the BBC to breathe Possibly a t56 but maybe a 700r4 with a 70's style shifter. So far I cut out the Rocker and replaced (My welding skills are not the best) stripped the paint from the rear quarters and deck lid replaces both front fenders and Passenger door Drivers door I thought was better than the one i had but come to find out it wasn't it was worse and I had already got rid of the old door dummy me . I have the black plastics for the interior I need to get the headliner, carpet, weatherstripping, doors and t-top also need to get the goodmark 2 inch cowl hood.

Re: 1986 iroc rebuild X2

More progress I have done some trial fitting of the doors and fenders and spoiler. after cutting out the rocker and replacing it seems i got it real close to correct since the door closes correctly. accually it closes great doesn't rub anywhere and closes with 1 one finger push. where i use to have to slam it and maybe it would close. so for that i am very happy I test fitted the ground effects last night and they look good it took one good bang with a hammer to get it alittle lower on one end. as not to rub the door Now mind you I had to remove it from the old rocker try to straighten it and then reweld it back on. the rear spoilers are back on and it looks good. and the front fenders are back on and alighned. need a hood to finish that part.. there use to be a gap at teh back side of the door that at the top was about a finger width and on the lower half that but now it is real close. useing the BFG to get teh floorpan back where it was suppose to be must have helped that gap .. it's comming together great I am happy with the results so far.. If you look close at the pic with the hooters girlls you can see the lower part of the ground effect under the door is bowed also the whole lower edge of the pass door has been crushed with a hammer so the door would close right by slamming it . Now that is all fixed

Re: 1986 iroc rebuild X2

I scored big yesterday at a local pull a part they brought in while i was there a black 85 Iroc convertable with a 305 5 speed. fenders were no good drivers door was no good which i needed but the cluster, emblems, motor and trans, crossmember, center console upper and lower with radio bezel and 5 speed cover were there and in good shape the black carpet wass in good shape it had a good iroc hood withthe lovers but the guy had put a daytona style hood scoop riveted on it so i didn't pick it up .. the cluster shows 22000 miles on it yes i know it could say 122000 but the numbers are straight so it looks to be 22000. I was going to get the pedals and the master and slave cylinders but ran out of time stripping the car yesterday they close at 5:00 and we cashed out at 4:59.. once getting into it we seperated teh trans from the motor lastnight and found out the trans is a World class t-5 so that means the motor and trans were out of a 88 or newer car and I also got the serpintine system too and dual fans, total $281.00 big score i think ..
Just need to go back and get The pedals and master and slave.

Re: 1986 iroc rebuild X2

Well it has been awhile since i posted anything about the car even tho I have been working on it almost daily. here's a list of new parts off the top of my head that i have bought.
New t-top weatherstripping
new throdle Bracket
new gauges Autometer speed tach gas volts oil water
new radio panisonic
new dynomax exhaust then custom cut it to make it work with the big block and the patriot headers
offset aircleaner base so the aircleaner fits under the cowl hood
block side fuel pump
relocated fuel lines to pass side
new speedo cable for the autometer gauge just for info its a 1973 monte carlo speedo cable from the trans to the cruise control. works perfect
all new bulbs in all lights
lakewood skatterproof bellhousing an 11 inch clutch from a 73 chevelle
world class T-5 installed and tested drove the car from the lower garage to the upper garage. need to adjust the clutch fork pivot ball clutch doesn't disengage until the floor.
comp engineering sfc weld in not installed yet
sem bed liner/sound deadiningfor the underside of the car not done yet
adjusted the altinator brackets new belt now need to figure out the power steering .
rebuilt the door panels and installed
new starter for a manual 73 chevelle with 454

yea i know that is one heck of a list
yes i know the t-5 is not long for this world behind a 600 hp 700+ ft pounds of tourqe big block but i figure if i baby it alittle it might live long enough for me to go to the woodward dream cruise if i can get it finished in time..

still need to buy tires,275-50-15 rear 245-60-15 front, adjust the lash finish power steering fix brake lights, tune the car, take the car to an exhaust shop to weld up the exhaust and fix my really low pipe from the drivers header to the passenger side of the car it's about 3 inchess off the ground when it goes under the bellhousing i have about 1 1/2 inches to move it up. I might do it myself then take it all to get welded up my welding skills are alittle lame.
