louvers on t/a hood
well here it goes, when i got my car painted the painters never took out the louvers to re-paint them. so the new paint got sprayed over the old, and it has all fish eyes over them. while taking off the front ones i grabbed a socket (5/8) and took out the outer nut first and had no issues. then i go to take out the inside nut and realize that the socket doesnt fit into the whole on the hood!!!! i was wondering if theres like a special socket or something that i dont have.

I kno this sounds stupid but maybe u can drill the hole out a little more just so you can get a socket in there. if not try going down to a hardware store and getting a skinny socket. they cost like $4 at most a piece
hope this helps

Re: louvers on t/a hood
yes thats what i had to do with my hood. had to buy a hole saw bit.
it was hard to keep it straight holding/drilling up into the hood. tired me out quick
my father showed me a trick. get a scrap piece of wood. use the holesaw bit and cut out a cylinder piece of wood the same diameter as the small hole ur trying to make bigger.
keep it inside the drillbit with the saw teeth around it with about half inch of wood sticking out.
use the wood sticking out and use it in the hoods hole to hold your drill in place as you cut to make the hole bigger.
then your socket will fit. just get some primer and paint to just touch up the raw metal exposed after cutting.
goodluck

Re: louvers on t/a hood
I used my Dremel tool with a grinder tip to open up the holes so that a standard sized socket could fit in mine.

you can also get a cheap socket take it over to a bench grinder and take the side down some to make the wall thinner then you dont have to have exposed metal on your hood that you will need to paint
