before i go and start this....

i am planning on starting a small tiny project of hooking up some HID headlights and possibly fog lights to my car. but there is one little thing about doing this project:
for some reason when i stop with my headlights on, my voltage drops really low, headlights dim, interior lights dim and i feel like the blinker slows too. its always done this since i have had the car.
my question is though, if i hook up HID lights, how will this react with this problem? ive tried new batteries, new alternators. i dont know what the problem is.

thanks

Get your alternator tested. If it dims at low Rpm's that is most likely the problem.

Re: before i go and start this....

this is the 2nd new alternator ive put in this car, both had the same problem so i dont think its the alternator. my brother once recommended looking into the regulator? i dont know where to find that but i was told that it is located somewhere on the motor and not the alternator.

Re: before i go and start this....

is it possible that you have an under drive pulley on your car?? i don't know a ot on the subject, but wouldn't that make you alternator turn slower.. and not put out as much juice as it is supposed to. just an idea.

Re: before i go and start this....

i really doubt it has an underdrive pulley, i never installed one and the person who had the car hardly drove it, it was totally stock in just about every way so yeah i dont think it does have one.

but would low voltage at stop affect HID lights if i were to put them on?

Re: before i go and start this....

I had a car that did the -exact- same thing. I tried the same things you did. Out of desperation, i purchased the kit ( of wires on the link that i sent you ) and found that most of my ground wires were either rotted, or was not making a good conection. Solved my issues! Good Luck!

And "YES" depending on what alt your going with, underdrive pullies in some cases will do that. When you put an underdrive kit on, i would look into changing the alt out as well.

Re: before i go and start this....

alright cool, i will try this, i actually wondered about re-doing my ground wires after my friend did that to his altima about 4 years ago. can i possibly just pick up new ground wires from my local NAPA? or do i need more wires, such as the ones listed in link?

Re: before i go and start this....

Personaly, if you do one, you should do all. If you have luck like mine, the one you do not replace will be the one giving you the problems. LOL! Yes, you dont have to go with that big of gauge wire, so you should be able to get the proper length at your local parts store, or have somebody cut you a set. Let me know how it works out for you.

Re: before i go and start this....

i hear ya, i have the same exact luck lol. would he be able to supply a diagram for where all the wires are located do you think? actually maybe my little haynes manual might help lol. i am still trying to figure all this car stuff out. im getting most of it down lol. i guess when i get the money and before i go and start/order the HID kit, i should probably invest in this too lol. can make a nice day job out of it. maybe if im nice enough (and supply a 6 pack of some good beer) my friend will let me use his garage lol

Re: before i go and start this....

well a few nights ago my headlights nearly went out completely (my only good side went out, and my dimmed-by-moisture-in-the-headlight light was the only one working) and i found out it was due to the ground not being good from the headlight to the body. after that was fixed it was brighter than i remember it ever being....now im thinking i dont need HID's lol. or atleast not anytime soon lol. if anyone was waiting to hear how the HID's work, im sorry to disappoint but it looks like i wont be doing them anytime soon
