My motors burned out on my headlights and i was wondering if anybody knew of a type of headlight that doesnt pop up and is just like a normal headlight?

There are a few solutions out there but in my opinion they all look like crap. These cars just do not look good with any type of pop-up delete kit. It just doesn't work for their body lines. In any case the head light motors are super easy to rebuild. I've done it a couple times and it's very simple for a first timer to take care of and the kits themselves aren't very expensive.

So all i need is a kit then? i dont have to buy brand new motors?

Not usually. Most of the time the stop working because the plastic gears wear out over time or in your case with an 87, the inserts in the worm gear deteriorates. The rebuild kits replace the gears/inserts.

$25 for both headlights and some of your time is a fair price to pay over ghetto rigging some other headlight config.

There is an even cheaper way. Lowe's and Home Depot sell nylon bushings for a couple of dollars. I have one and I will try to find the part number. Those bushings and some white grease from VatoZone is all you need if the plastic "bearing" type things have crumbled into sand. I used them and they have been good for 4yrs and counting.

i helped my friend take his out and we dropped the lower part of the headlight housing and put in aftermarket 90's grand prix headlights, and then put a camaro hood on it, it looks fine, but then he crashed it

On my 87 Trans Am I was always wondering why the right headlight opened up slower than the left. Last summer I took the front end apart to take a look because the headlight motors looked slightly different, and I had a headlight from an 87 for my passenger's side and a headlight for an 84 on my driver's side. I took the headlight from my parts car which was an original 87 and replaced it, and they went up and down at the same speed, but only twice before the gear stripped in the driver's side headlight. I tore it down and tried to fix it once but it didn't work, so I just left them up until I felt like trying again this summer when I get started on it again.

Pop up headlight delete kits? I've seen those on 4th gens but never on a 3rd gen bird. Anybody got pictures/links? I wonder what they look like.

they dont exsist for a 3rd gen, the only ones are homemade deals. The kits mentioned here are the headlight motor repair kits
